February 2

I apologize for the technical difficulties at the beginning of class today. Technology can be fantastic when it works. I will be sending along those presentations as soon as I hear back from everyone on the e-mail list. I would like to send today's presentation out tomorrow, to help you finish the chart that I assigned for homework tonight. This is roughly what your chart should have the following horizontal headings:View of Nature of Human Beings, Main Ideas, How These Ideas Differed From Those of Feudal Society. You should also have the following listed vertically on your chart: John Locke, Philosophes as a group, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Deism, Rousseau, Francois Quesnay, Cesare Beccaria, Adam Smith. This chart is due on Monday. More detail is better on the chart than less!

Please check your e-mail tonight and respond back, I'm still trying to get the e-mail distribution list working perfectly. Both maps are due tomorrow. Please check yesterday's posting for some helpful information. Here's a good hyperlink for learning about Canada's lakes and rivers: click here. When you're looking around the Internet tonight, maybe you should visit this site.

For those of you still not sure where Lake St. Clair is, perhaps this map will help:

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Please color the rivers blue.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You can label Greenland and the USA. Just make sure that you don't color them the same color as Canada.

Anonymous said...

which province or territory has the highest proportion of Aboriginal canadains?

Anonymous said...

Northwest territories i think o.O

ontario has the highest population of them, but proportion is indicative that it is compared with overall population.

Anonymous said...

ontario has the highest population of them, but proportion indicates that it is compared to overall population.

Anonymous said...

oops double post

Anonymous said...

was the email sent today the one that said stuff about responding with your name and class?

Anonymous said...

for the political map, do we need to label everything in capitals?

Anonymous said...

ontario has the highest aboriginal canadians

i have couple questions
+ what are the three mountain ranges that exist in canada?
+ how many national park does canada have?

Anonymous said...

k so
can anyone tell me where nelson river and lake st. claire is for the physical map

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Yes, I sent out the e-mail before class today. You don't have to label everything in capital letters. Mackenzie, Coast and Rocky Mountains would work for that question. There are 40 National Parks in Canada.

Anonymous said...

for question 27..
it says
How does the size of Canada in terms of countries in the world?
i dont get it.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

The Nelson River is in Manitoba, south of the Churchill River (I answered this question already, make sure that you read through the comments). Lake St. Clair looks like it is part of one of the Great Lakes. Pull up the map of Ontario from the hyperlinks that I posted yesterday and you should be able to find it.

Anonymous said...

for number 27
it says..
How does the size of Canada in terms of countries in the world?
i dont get it..

Anonymous said...

sorry about the double post

Anonymous said...

for the first nation groups

I think on the political map I asked you to underline the capital cities. Just underline the word.

Anonymous said...

lol i didnt look in the most obvious spot.
oh and is the province and capital cities of the provinces all we need for the political map?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

The longest undefended border in the world: the 49th parallel. (The border between Canada and the U.S.)

Anonymous said...

Lake St. Clair is near Lake Huron and Lake Erie....

Kevin Gilchrist said...

On the political map there were other cities that you had to label. Check the handout for what cities I wanted you to label.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Not on the political map. Just what the instructions tell you. Label the provinces and territories, capital cities and other cities that were listed.

Anonymous said...

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Click on the first hyperlink. It's one of the first lines on that website. You'll have to read a bit.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I have not sent it out because I haven't heard from everyone yet (not everyone has replied to my message).

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Abbreviation is okay.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You'll be working tomorrow. Welcome to high school.

Anonymous said...

aw thanks what a warm welcome I think I'll like this school.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mr Gilchrist,

I'm in your ss 20 class and I just have a few questions... one is in my chart I think I sort of combined Voltair and deism. Is that all right? also, for Rousseau I'm not really sure what to put under "differing views from society". I know them I just can't write them... like can't explain them... Also how long should each person be? Like for most people I have two or three points in each category... is that ok??? Some I have more for... but they look short. I also took notes in today's and yesterday's classes on the overhead.. so some of it I feel I am repeating...

Anonymous said...

will the united states and greenland have to be coloured for the maps?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You can either color them or leave them blank, just be consistent.

Anonymous said...

alright thanks

Anonymous said...

should we lable them?

Anonymous said...

Mr Gilchrist....

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Voltaire is a proponent of Deism, you do have to separate the ideas associated with Deism into its own category though. For Rousseau you should mention that he challenged ownership by the aristocracy; feudal society was based on inequality, something that Rousseau was adamantly against; additionally, feudal society was hierarchical, Rousseau was against this type of inequality. Does this help?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You can label the USA and Greenland. You can color them or not, just be consistent. For example, if you color the USA you should color Greenland too.

Anonymous said...

Do we need to include legends in the maps?

Anonymous said...

for our political map
do we have to color in the rivers, lakes and oceans blue too?

Anonymous said...

ok thanks =D

Anonymous said...

yes thanks... but I still don't understand how to seperate Voltaire and the Beism... can you help me with that tomorrow??

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Sure, I can help you with the Voltaire and Deism problem tomorrow.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You don't have include a legend on your maps, unless you decided that you didn't have room to label some of the cities, and instead you used numbers or something like that.

Anonymous said...

hey i can't find the life expectancy for Canada's females and males??

Kevin Gilchrist said...

On the political map you do have to color lakes and oceans blue. I don't think that there are any rivers on that map.

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much!!

Anonymous said...

life expentency for males is 76.1 years and for females, it's 81.5 years

Anonymous said...

oops.. i ddnt color lakes and rivers blue on the political map, do i have 2 do the questions in pen??

Anonymous said...

thanx!

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I'm assuming you're talking about the "Basic Canadian Geographical Information" right? You can answer those questions in pencil or pen, just make sure that it's on a separate piece of paper!

Kevin Gilchrist said...

It's almost 10:00 p.m. You better get those last second questions in. I'm about to sign off.

Anonymous said...

what do we put for the aspects of geography that canada is most known for?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

It's kind of cold here, right?

Anonymous said...

just that?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Well, you maybe also add something about the Rockies or other tourist attractions.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I'm signing off for the night.
