I'm sure that you would be able to find information online about any of the topics in the Western Alienation section. Or you could contact a classmate to see if you could get notes from them.

No you don't have to tell me ahead of time. However, if you're going to do the timeline in PowerPoint I ask you to either send it to me by e-mail, burn it to a CD or bring it in on USB drive (a jump drive). Please do not bring it in on a floppy!!

Interesting wording. "Specific" and "generally" in the same sentence.
Anyway, in order to do well on the test you need to know the information in the unit very well as you will be required to apply it for some questions. Other questions will be very much "knowledge level" questions.

You said under the September 25, 2006 entry, to study the physiographic regions (chart). Do you mean the chart that has the sections of physiographic region, province/territories in region, examples of physical features and climate in region, natural resources of region, major economic ativities, and problems faced by this region?

Yes, that's the one.

Are you taking the western Alienation notes in for marks?

No, they are just for studying purposes.

For the physoigraphic regions and the climatic regions, do we need to know the types of topography characteristics and the characteristics of each zone?

----------------------
That might be helpful, especially if I described "Region X" and you had to choose which region I was describing based solely on the description.

Download the attachment (save it to your computer). Open up PowerPoint. Open that presentation up. Play the slideshow.

hi

im jsut wondering whats the jeapordy game for studying?

Anonymous said...

I opened up the Jeopardy game, but when i clicked the start button, nothing will happen and it wouldn't start the game

Anonymous said...

what's the regionalism extra credit assignment? what do you have to do and where is it?

Anonymous said...

I am also having troubles with starting the Jeopardy game. I don't understand what it means to "enable macros" in order to make the buttons work

-------------------
Just click on the button that says "enable macros" when it pops up. If that pops up it just means that you have your settings set to ask that question (that's the non-complicated answer).

-------------------
Download the game attachment just like you would any other PowerPoint presentation that I have sent to you. Save it to your hard drive. Start PowerPoint. Open up this presentation from your hard drive. If the question about macros comes up click on "enable macros". Then you need to view slideshow. It's a Jeopardy game with questions and categories from this unit.

---------------------
Check your brochure assignment sheet. I mentioned that there was an extra credit component there. It's designing a website that acts as a companion to your brochure. If you didn't talk to me about it, then I really wouldn't recommend attempting it. I would concentrate on working on the French-English relations timeline instead.

my powerpoint doesent ask me to enable macros or anything?

Anonymous said...

do we have to know the dates for the french-english relations?

Then you should have no problem playing the game.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Only dates included in the PowerPoint.

No I don't think so.

The powerpoint game doesn't work for me either; none of the buttons work. But, I can still go through the powerpoint normally by pressing the space button, which means that it'll be just like a normal questionaire. At least I can still study from it... =P

Which is what you should do if you can't play the game. Still use it as a study tool.

Study. Know your stuff. I will be teaching some test-taking strategies this year at some point.

If you know your stuff, you walk into the exam with a greater sense of confidence. Once you have seen one of my unit finals it will help you to prepare for the next one because they all have the same types of questions on them.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I use that abbreviation for the Roman Catholic Church.

I'm not sure. My account isn't accessible either. Sometimes on weekends the CBE takes the network down to do maintenance so maybe that's what they're up to now.

I sent that out awhile ago. I guess you should have opened it up when I sent it out instead of waiting until the day before the unit final to look for it.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I sent that PowerPoint out on September 22nd.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Maybe you have a nice classmate who will take pity on you and can send it to you.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Was the national energy poilicy of Trudeau to help reduce foreign investment in the West?
------------------------
Not exactly. I think that you might be confusing FIRA with the National Energy Policy. Since I don't think the Western Alienation notes referred to FIRA I'll focus in on the NEP. The NEP was established in 1980 by Trudeau's government, at the height of a world oil crisis. The NEP was a sweeping government program which was aimed at increasing Canadian owenership in the oil industry, forcing the Western provinces to give the federal government a bigger cut of the "oil pie", and making Canada more self-sufficient in energy. The NEP was a massive government intervention program, based on the assumption that oil prices would continue to rise. They didn't. By 1982, world oil prices started to plummet and the government had found itself heavily in debt and overextended. The NEP punished Alberta but did little for Canada, and the country as a whole began to sink into a recession. Does this help?

hey, I think i might've found out what was wrong with some of your Jeopardy games.

If you had your macro security setting to "high", the program wouldn't have asked you whether or not to enable macros, it would've just not enabled macros, thus not allowing any of the buttons to work. To fix this, go to the "Tools" tab, and then clikc on "Options". Next, click on the "Security" tab, and near the bottom, there should be a "Macro Security" button; click on that and it should show you options for high, medium and low settings. Setting it to "medium" will let the program ask you whether or not you want macros to be enabled. After you have selected "medium", press "OK" and restart the PowerPoint, it should now ask you whether or not you want macros to be enabled for this presentation.

You were to take notes on the Growth of Western Alienation, specifically, the Great Depression, protective tarrifs, and the Reform Party.

Thank you so much to the person who posted the comment on the macros. it was such a huge help. thanks
