July 3

I did a quick review of the principles of individualism (PRICES) and the principles of collectivism (PRINCE). I also talked about what happens to the 20th century political spectrum when you introduce other elements to the spectrum such as maximum political freedom versus maximum political control. I went back to this concept later in the class, when I taught the economic-political grid. We also watched the Michael Moore documentary "Sicko". This documentary is becoming dated to some extent. At the time there were 50 million Americans without health insurance, and that was why the Obama administration introduced the Affordable Care Act (commonly called "Obamacare"), to try to get more Americans health insurance. "Sicko" did a comparison of the American healthcare system to the Canadian, the British, the French and the Cuban system. I strongly recommend that you also visit the PBS website for their documentary "Sick Around the World". Unfortunately, you can't watch the documentary from the PBS website anymore, but you can watch it here:

You don't have to hand them in. I'm only going to do homework checks on the Chapter 2 Key Terms and Questions and the individualism and collectivism charts from the Social 30-1 study booklets
