November 12


You watched the documentary "Nanking" today in class. You'll continue learning more about Japan's road to WWII tomorrow.



You should have re-read pages 168-169 in Exploring Nationalism today. Then you watched a video from the Turning Points of History series called "The Atomic Bomb" which covered the Manhattan Project. You also should have taken notes on the video and put them into your Social 20-1 course books.


You watched a documentary on the Vietnam War today called "Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam". Please remember that you have your Chapter 7 Test on the Cold War this Thursday, please see the study guide below.

It is a multiple choice test with 50 multiple choice questions. Please make sure that you have read Chapter 7. Here are some other study tips:
  • study "The Origins of the Cold War" (ppt)
  • study all notes on the Origins and Causes of the Cold War
  • study notes on the Korean War
  • study notes on the Cuban Missile Crisis
  • study notes on the Vietnam War (see notes package and Vietnam War booklet, and the notes that I sent to you on the Vietnam War)
  • make sure that you know all the Cold War Concepts (deterrence, detente, brinkmanship, etc.)
  • know the chronology of events of the Cold War (study the Cold War timeline)
  • know key events that we've emphasized in class (for example: Berlin Airlift, Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War) plus other key events from the timeline
  • know major arms reduction agreements (bilateral agreements and multilateral agreements)
  • know about the formation of alliances (NATO, Warsaw Pact) and the formation of "spheres of influence" (Eastern Europe for example)
  • anything that I gave you as a handout in your Social 30-1 coursebooks is testable material and should be reviewed!!
  • know how the Cold War ends and its results/consequences (there's a reading in your Social 30-1 course books on this very subject)

You started a film study today on the movie "Life + Debt". We'll finish it off (if you didn't complete it) on Monday. As you were watching this film, you should have been taking notes on it, and completing the film study questions. your WTO charts and Chapter 11 Key Terms and Questions are due on Monday, November 20th.


You finished off the documentary "Nanking" today. You had the remainder of class time to work on essay preparation for your Paper 1 that you're writing on November 24th. Don't forget that your Paper 1 assignment is due on Monday, November 20th. you're going to hand in a hard copy and a digital copy of this assignment.

November 14


You started watching a documentary today called "Nanking". you'll finish up this film on Thursday. Tomorrow, you'll be going to the Red Lab to work on your Paper 1 assignment, which is due on Monday, November 20th.



Please make sure that you go to the Social 10-1 wiki and download a copy of the PowerPoint presentation "The Expansion of Economic Globalization". I will not be delivering this lecture in class. Print off a hard copy with 4 slides per page. You were given booklets on the WTO, IMF and World Bank today. These booklets have criticisms of these global financial institutions. You have a homework assignment from this booklet. You need to create a detailed chart on the advantages and disadvantages of the WTO. This WTO chart is due on Monday, November 20th.
