I took in your outlines for the essay questions that you prepared yesterday at the beginning of class. I finished off the "End of the Cold War" PDF notes that Ms. Phui prepared today. I recommend you watch the CNN Cold War episodes that I posted on the wiki most recently, namely "The Wall Comes Down" and "Conclusions" episode. On Tuesday (March 17th), you will be writing a Paper 3 on the Cold War and the Americas. On Wednesday (March 18th), you will be writing a Social 30-1 style multiple choice test on the Cold War, I'm posting the study guide below.


On Wednesday, March 18th you will have a Cold War Unit Exam. Please see the study guide below. This test will be a Social 30-1 test and it will be all multiple choice test format.

      We polished off the last of the "Evolution of Modern Liberalism" PowerPoint lecture and then we covered how supply-side and demand-side economics deals with a recession, and then we moved on to Russian history. I started showing a video from the BBC 20th Century History series called "Stalin and the Modernization of Russia". The video was interrupted by the fire drill, so we'll have to finish it off on Friday.

      I started a lecture today on "Historical Globalization and Imperialism". We're really getting into Unit 2 material now. Make sure that you have your Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions ready for Friday's class.



      We discussed the causes of the French Revolution and Napoleon's domestic policies. I did a homework check on your Napoleon's Domestic Policy Assignment. On Friday, I'm going to re-teach you how to write a three source interpretation (WRA I) in advance of your WRA I on the French Revolution that you're writing next week. Please have a look at the upcoming important dates for IB 20. You also have your French Revolution DBA due on Tuesday.

      We started a presentation today called "Historical Globalization and Imperialism". Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions are due on Friday, March 16th.

      You have your Unit 1 Final Exam on Wednesday, March 21st, please see the study guide below. 


      Unit 1 Final Exam will be Wednesday, March 21st. The format for the exam is entirely multiple choice. It will consist of 55 multiple choice questions, 60-65% of the questions will be "source-based" questions, while the remainder will be simply knowledge and comprehension style questions. In other words, the source-based questions will use political cartoons, timelines, a chart or diagram, a graph, a reading, a photo or a map, and you will have answer questions related to that source. The source-based questions will be difficult to prepare for. You must have a firm grasp of the concepts and key terms that were introduced in Unit 1, because that will allow you to apply the knowledge that you have to answer the multiple choice questions.

      Please study your key terms from Chapters 1-5, and the topics covered in that unit.

I've moved the due date for your Chapter 5 Key Terms and Questions to Friday, March 16th.



      We continued our film study of "12 Years a Slave" today, hopefully we'll be able to finish it off tomorrow. I also showed you the results of your Cold War Exam today.

      This exam will be written on Thursday, November 2nd. It is a multiple choice question format test. 
      This is a comprehensive exam that covers all of the major economic systems: market economy, mixed economy, and command economy. It is 74 multiple choice questions.

              You got the results for your Unit 1 Final Exam back today. I started talking about "Historical Globalization and Imperialism" today. I'll finish off this lecture next week. Please remember that you are writing your Unit 1 WRA II Essay on Monday and Tuesday. You will get 45 minutes on Monday to write, then we'll do a peer editing session. On Tuesday, you will get the entire period to finish off your essay.


              You got the results back for your Ideological Reaction to Industrialization Test, which you wrote yesterday. I went through the Russian History notes from your Social 30-1 workbook on page 104. You are responsible for reading, highlighting and annotating the notes on Karl Marx (pages 94-96), Vladimir Lenin (pages 97-98), and Joseph Stalin (pages 99-101).

              I'm really sorry that I didn't post this on Friday, it was a really busy Model UN weekend!



              We started off with some "E-Cow-nomics" on Friday. I then gave you some notes on leaders of the Soviet Union, so if you missed class today, you need to get these notes from a classmate. You were supposed to read, highlight and annotate the following notes from your Social 30-1 study booklet:


              • Changes to the Soviet Union since Stalin

              • complete the note-taking activity in the "Economic Planning in the USSR" section as well
              • your Chapter 5 Questions are due on Tuesday, October 20th

              You wrote your Paper 3 on the Civil War and Reconstruction on Friday.
