We continued working on the Chinese Civil War Google Doc today. Please make sure that it is completely filled in 100% before you make a copy of it. Tomorrow, we'll move on to the Spanish Civil War Google Doc.

Social 20-1

We went through our last topic for Unit 4 today, that being regional disparity and regionalism. If you missed class today, please get the notes from a classmate. Tomorrow, you are writing Part A of the Final Exam in the Blenheim Room, you will have Period 4 and tutorial to write it. Part "B" of the Final Exam (80 multiple choice questions) is on Tuesday, January 14th in the Main Gym at 1-3 pm.

Social 30-1

We were back in the Red Lab today to work on the WRA II Google Doc. We've moved the Trial Final to Friday, January 10th.

• Trial Final Exam is on Friday, January 10th (this test wipes out your lowest test result; the study guide is the Diploma Exam Study Guide that is in the back of your Social 30-1 course booklets)
• Social 30-1 Diploma Exam Part "A" (written component) is on Tuesday, January 14th in the various computer labs (you will be assigned a lab and computer station) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, unless you need to take extra time, then you can write until 3 pm if necessary. 
• Social 30-1 Diploma Exam Part "B" (60 multiple choice questions) is on Friday, January 24th from 9:00 am to 11:30 am in the Main Gym.

Social 30-1

Social 30-1 students were split into small groups and selected a Diploma Exam Part A booklet, set up a Google Doc and proceeded to make a detailed essay outline for their selected WRA II position paper. Social 30-2 students worked on Assignment I today (they'll work on Assignment II tomorrow, and Assignment III on Friday). If you have a laptop at home, please bring it tomorrow, it will be better than using the laptops in the school laptop cart. Check out samples of student writing by searching for "Alberta Social Studies 30-1 (or 30-2) January [insert year; between 2010-2019]". Check out what you need to do to get an EXCELLENT. Keep studying for the Trial Final (June 10th).

Social 20-1

You wrote your Final Exam Part A today in the Blenheim Room. Everyone was present, so thank you for that! It would have been extremely difficult scheduling lab time tomorrow because the Social 10-1 students are writing Part A of their Final Exam tomorrow. Please remember that you're writing the Unit 3 Final Exam tomorrow.

We played a game of Jeopardy today to review some key concepts from Units 1-4. Don't forget that you're writing Part A of your Final Exam tomorrow in Room 104. Please go directly there tomorrow.

You wrote your Final Exam Part A today. I will have these essays marked before your Final Exam Part B, so you know what your overall mark is going into multiple choice test next Thursday. I will post the essay marks in HomeLogic once I've marked them all.

Please remember that you are writing a Trial Final Exam this Thursday, which will count for marks. The study guide is the same as for the actual Diploma Exam, it's at the back of your green coursebooks (pages 88-97).

You wrote the Unit 3 Final Exam today. I'll post the results to HomeLogic this afternoon. Tomorrow, you are writing the Part A of the Final Exam. You're writing in Room 104 tomorrow. you won't get the essay question sheet in advance. Part A counts for 10% of your final mark in Social Studies 20-1, while Part B counts for 20%. You can find the study guide for both parts at the back of your coursebooks on pages 311-314.

We finished watching the movie "Contagion" today. I split you into small groups to play a quick review game today as well. Don't forget that you're writing Part A of the Final Exam on Thursday, June 7th. Part B is one week later on June 14th. Part A counts for 10% and Part B for 15% of your final grade in Social Studies 10-1. Please make sure that you've picked up a copy of the final exam study guide from me.

I continued the Social 30-1 review today. I talked very briefly about market socialism, and how to classify the Chinese economy, and where China fits on the economic-political grid. I went through the democratic systems section of your coursebook (pages 48-51). When we got to the section "dominance of special interest groups" we talked a little bit about the NRA. I also went through the structure of the American government (page 66 in your coursebook). We'll keep working on democratic systems tomorrow. I did a homework check on the Chapter 16 Key Terms and Questions today. We spent most of the period preparing for Wednesday's debate. I split you into two groups, side proposition and side opposition. Wednesday's debate topic is as follows: "BIRT globalization helps spread democracy and improve human rights in the world". On the Unit 4 page of the Social 10-1 wiki, you'll see that I've posted some articles with different perspectives on this topic, which should help you frame your arguments.

I did a homework check on your Chapter 11 Key Terms and Questions, and your Chapter 12 Key Terms and Questions are due on Tuesday (tomorrow). I gave back your Unit 2 research projects, and your Unit 3 WRA II Essays as well. Please have a look at your current mark in HomeLogic. 

For your Final Exam Part "A", I would make sure that I prepared arguments and evidence for an essay that is discussing the value conflict between the pursuit of national interest and the pursuit of international interest. You have 17 days until your Final Exam Part "B" (80 multiple choice questions). I pointed out that you have the study guide at the back of your Social 20-1 coursebooks. Most of the PowerPoint lectures are in the booklet. Please don't re-read the textbook to study! Please study from the coursebook. You should have nice notes in the booklet at this point in the course, it's just time to start going back and reviewing what you've learned. I listed off all of the key concepts from all four units, gave you a list of the lecture titles (most are in the coursebook), and gave you even more tips for review.

I started a PowerPoint on a "History of French-English Relations in Canada" that you'll have to finish on your own. Please bring your Chapter 12 Key Terms and Questions to the computer lab tomorrow. Please go directly to the Blenheim Room tomorrow to write Part A of your Final Exam. If you get extra time, go to the Learning Resource Room (Period 1 students you have Tutorial and Period 1 to write it; Period 4 students you have lunch and Period 4 to write it).

IB 20 HOTA

The Mao Zedong group presented today. They will show their video tomorrow, and then the Nasser group will present. The Castro group is up on Thursday. The Peron group will present either right after the Castro group or they will present on Friday.
