SOCIAL 20-1

After numerous technical issues with the DVD, we finished off our film study of "The Rocket" today. The film study for this film will be due on tomorrow (Friday, September 27th). Your Chapter 3 Key Terms and Questions are due on Monday, September 30th. Your Chapter 3-4 Test is next Friday (October 4th). Please see the study guide below.  

CHAPTERS 3-4 TEST STUDY GUIDE:

This test will be on Friday, October 4th. It will consist of a matching section (10 key concepts) and a short answer section.

• make sure that you study the PowerPoint presentation "Contending Loyalties"
• make sure that you have read Chapters 3 and 4 (it is all testable material)
• know the key concepts/key terms from Chapters 3 and 4 (please see the Unit 1 Worksheet for these)
• study your answers to the Chapter 3 and 4 questions from the Unit 1 Worksheet (all could potentially be on the quiz)

SOCIAL 30-1

I went through a lecture called "Responding to Classical Liberalism", you should have taken notes on the retrieval chart while I lectured today. Make sure that you have finished off the Chapter 4 Google Doc. 

IB 30/35

We finished off "The Wall Street Crash and Great Depression" lecture today. Please remember that the rough draft of your IA is due on September 30th.

SOCIAL 30-1

We talked about the roots of classical liberalism today, so make sure that you understand of the summary diagram on page 50 of your Social 30-1 coursebooks. I gave you notes on basic economic concepts that you need to understand in 30-1, such as: scarcity, economic systems (command economy, mixed economy, market economy; with synonyms for each system), basic economic values (SES/GESSEF/GEF), basic economic questions. I shared the Chapter 4 Google Doc with you last night, please get working on it! Make sure that you have gone through the French Revolution and Industrial Revolution sections of the lecture on "The Development of Classical Liberalism" that I delivered last week. We'll talk about the responses to classical liberalism that was dominant during the Industrial Revolution.

We finished "The Roaring Twenties" Google Slides today, you can download this lecture off of the IB 30/35 wiki. We moved on to "The Wall Street Crash and Great Depression" lecture. Please remember that the rough draft of your IA is due on September 30th.

Social 30-1

If you're in my Period 4 class, we finished off "Snowden" today. If you're in my Period 3 class, you had your Grade 12 Grad Rehearsal today, so we'll try to finish off the movie tomorrow. You should be doing review for the Trial Final on June 10th, start studying now for this exam! The study guide is at the back of your Social 30-1 coursebooks.

Social 20-1

We finished watching "The Rocket" today in class. Your film study is due tomorrow. Your Chapter 14-15 Key Terms and Questions are due on Wednesday, June 5th. Don't forget that you're writing Part A of the Social 20-1 Final Exam on Wednesday, June 5th. You're writing the Unit 3 Final Exam the next day, on June 6th (please see the study guide below).

Please review all of the Unit 3 Key Terms from the Unit 3 Worksheet in addition to the key concepts that were introduced in the PowerPoint presentations. In addition to this, I would like to emphasize the following points with you:

• know the difference between multilateralism, unilateralism and bilateralism and know examples of each
• know the spectrum of foreign policy: internationalism, nationalism, ultranationalism, and supranationalism
• know the different foreign policy options
• know the 6 themes of Canadian foreign policy/Canada's foreign policy goals
• what influences foreign policy decisions?
• methods of foreign policy
• motivations for nations involvement or non-involvement in international affairs
• how can foreign policy promote internationalism?
• tied aid, bilateral aid, multilateral aid
• examples of INGOs and IGOs
• the United Nations (organization/structure, bodies, etc.)
• peacemaking vs. peacekeeping (and examples)
• different understandings of internationalism (types of internationalism)
• why do international organizations exist? purposes and examples

For your Final Exam Part "A",you should prepare arguments and evidence for an essay that is discussing the value conflict between the pursuit of national interest and the pursuit of international interest. You have two weeks until your Final Exam Part "B" (80 multiple choice questions). I pointed out that you have the study guide at the back of your Social 20-1 coursebooks. Most of the PowerPoint lectures are in the booklet. Please don't re-read the textbook to study! Please study from the coursebook. You should have nice notes in the booklet at this point in the course, it's just time to start going back and reviewing what you've learned.
