October 1

We started our Constitutional Convention today, and we'll continue tomorrow and Wednesday. It took us a while to set the order of the agenda, but once we did that we had some good debate. It is pretty clear that many of you have done your research. If you didn't speak much (or at all today) you have two classes to get involved in the debate. Remember, you're being evaluated on not only research and preparation for the convention, but also the quality and content of your speeches. Raise your placard during the debate, and I will call on you. Please remember that you have your American Revolution Test on Thursday (please see the study guide below).

There will be 20 matching and 45 multiple-choice questions.

Know the various Acts that took place before/during the Revolution:
* Stamp, Sugar Act
* Townshend Acts
* Intolerable Acts

* French Indian War
* Significant events that led up to the Revolutionary War – chronological order
* Grievances of the colonies – taxation, representation

Know significant individuals such as:
* James Madison
* John Adams

* George Washington
* Samuel Adams
* Benjamin Franklin

The Revolutionary War:

* Battle of Yorktown - significance
* Phases of the progression of the war

Please read the sections in your History of the Americas textbook that relate to the American Revolution as well.

I taught you the Boom and Bust Cycle (Business Cycle) today, and I went through a PowerPoint lecture called "Responding to Classical Liberalism". While I was lecturing, you should have completed the chart in your Social 30-1 coursebooks. Keep working on your Chapter 4 Key Terms and Questions tonight. We'll continue talking about the transformation from classical liberalism to welfare capitalism to modern liberalism.

You had some class time today to work on your Chapter 5 Key Terms and Questions. I will do a homework check on the Chapter 5 work tomorrow. You're writing the Unit 1 Final Exam tomorrow, and the Unit 1 WRA I on Wednesday

Unit 1 Final Exam will be Tuesday, October 2nd. The format for the exam is entirely multiple choice. It will consist of 55 multiple choice questions, 60-65% of the questions will be "source-based" questions, while the remainder will be simply knowledge and comprehension style questions. In other words, the source-based questions will use political cartoons, timelines, a chart or diagram, a graph, a reading, a photo or a map, and you will have answer questions related to that source. The source-based questions will be difficult to prepare for. You must have a firm grasp of the concepts and key terms that were introduced in Unit 1, because that will allow you to apply the knowledge that you have to answer the multiple choice questions.

Please study your key terms from Chapters 1-5, and the topics covered in that unit.
