Social 20-1

I showed you the A & E Biography "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler" today. Please make sure that you read the Interwar Years section in your Social 20-1 course books (pages 127-134). I gave back your Unit 1 WRA I Chart Assignment today. Tomorrow, you will get back your Unit 1 WRA I three source interpretation assignments. The Unit 1 WRA I will count rather heavily on your overall mark until we do another writing assignment.

Social 30-1

I finished off the PowerPoint lecture "The Evolution of Modern Liberalism" today. I also went through how demand-side and supply-side economics deal with a recession. It's good to visualize the percolator and the coffee maker to get the difference between the two.

March 15

Social 20-1

We finished off the "Making Peace" activity from your course books, and we went over the answers. I gave you some time to read over the next couple of pages in your course books on the Paris Peace Conference and the Treaty of Versailles. I then showed you a video from the BBC 20th Century History series called "Make Germany Pay" which reviewed the Paris Peace Conference, the key players at the conference, what their national interests were, and German reparations after the war. Next week, we'll be looking at the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis in Germany, and the reaction of other European states and the League of Nations to increasing German aggression and violation of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. It would probably be wise to read over pages 127-134 in your course books to get a preview of the Interwar Years.

Social 30-1

You wrote the Ideological Reaction to Industrialization Test today. I will be posting the results on PowerSchool after school today. I'm going to be talking to some of you next week about switching from Social 30-1 to 30-2 because it's a necessary conversation that we need to have before Spring Break because we'll be expected to submit paperwork to switch you over to 30-2 closer to the term switch over.

March 15

Social 20-1

I showed you a couple of videos today, one from the BBC 20th Century History series called "Make Germany Pay", and the other was A & E Biography called "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler". Hopefully you completed the Interwar Years reading assignment prior to today's class.

Social 10-1

We were able to do an activity based around the story "The Rabbits". This book addresses some of the themes that we'll be looking at Unit 2, such as cultural contact, assimilation, imperialism, differing world views, and residential schools. We spent a fair bit of time looking at the symbolism in the book and some of the themes that the book introduces.Your  Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions are due on Friday, March 17th. 

March 14

Social 10-1

Both classes finished writing their Unit 1 WRA II Essay today. If you missed class today (there were a couple of you in my Period 4 class), you will need to finish writing this essay tomorrow during class time. One thing I need both classes to improve upon when you do an in-class writing assignment is the following: when I say that there's 5 minutes left and you should be finishing up your essays and printing them off, that is what you should be doing, not continuing to type your essay until the end of class bell goes. We're moving on to Unit 2 material tomorrow. Your Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions are due on Thursday (March 16th).

Social 20-1

We looked at national interests at the Paris Peace Conference today by doing an activity from your Social 20-1 booklets called "Making Peace". I also went through Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points. I gave you the rest of class time to read, highlight and take notes on the Interwar Years readings in your booklets. You must have this reading completed to truly understand the content that I'm going through tomorrow.

Social 20-1

We watched an A & E Biography episode "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler", which took most of the period. I also touched upon the Munich Conference, appeasement, the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, the Italian invasion of Abyssinia, the Spanish Civil War, the Great Depression (1929-1939), and the outbreak of WWII. On Friday we'll be looking at appeasement and the failure of the League of Nations to stop the outbreak of the Second World War. Please make sure that you have read, highlight and annotated the notes on the Interwar Years in your Social 20-1 workbook.

IB 20 HOTA

We finished off the History Channel documentary on "The French Revolution". Hopefully you took great notes on this video. I gave you the French Revolution DBA Assignment today, and it is due one week from today (Wednesday, October 26th). I also went through how to write a WRA I three source analysis assignment. You're writing a WRA I on the French Revolution on Friday, October 21st. This means that your current events quiz has been moved to Tuesday, October 24th (we're going to the library to work on the IA on Monday).

Social 20-1

I did a quick review of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles (GARGLe), and then we looked at Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points. We also did an activity called "Making Peace" in which you had to look at different statements and determine whether Wilson, Lloyd George or Clemenceau would have made the statement. You should read, highlight, and annotate the notes that I have in your Social 20-1 study booklet on the Interwar Years (1919-1939).

I finished off my PowerPoint lecture on the French Revolution today. Make sure that you print off and add to your binders a reading called "French Revolution and Napoleonic Age Glossary" from the IB 20 wiki.

You wrote your Unit 1 Final Exam at the beginning of class today. Your Chapter 5 Key Terms and Questions were due today. Make sure that you complete your Chapter 6 Key Terms and Questions this weekend, they are due on Monday, July 15th. We watched a few videos to cover the Interwar Years Period, including from the BBC 20th Century History series called "Make Germany Pay" and "Why Appeasement?". Please classify the arguments for and against appeasement from the Was Appeasement a Good Idea? activity in your study booklets. We also watched "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler". Please remember that your Chapter 5-6 Test is on Tuesday, July 16th, you can find the study guide here (scroll down to find it). You are also writing a Unit 2 WRA I on Monday.
