In today's lecture I covered Japan after the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) to the 1920s. We'll talk more about the Great Depression and its impacts on Japan, how Japan decided to invade Manchuria in 1931. You should probably read in your textbook, The Move to Global War, pages 23-30 at the minimum. Don't forget that your create a Paper 1 assignment is due on November 20th (two weeks from today).

I finished off the PowerPoint lecture "Forging the New Republic", and then we started the PBS documentary on the War of 1812. We'll be able to finish off the documentary tomorrow. Make sure that you read everyday from the War of 1812 booklet in preparation for the four options debate on the War of 1812 that we'll be having on Wednesday. Please remember that you'll be writing a Unit 6 Quiz on Monday that will have a matching section and an OPVL document analysis section.

I lectured a bit today about John Maynard Keynes, Friedrich Hayek, and Milton Friedman. I also taught you about the boom and bust cycle and the Keynesian economic response to the various stages of the boom and bust cycle. Your Chapter 11 Key Terms are due tomorrow.

We finished off the HBO documentary "Reagan" today, and then I began discussing the George H.W. Bush administration. We'll continue with the Bush administration tomorrow. Read my lips: no new taxes!

We started our next unit, the Emergence of the Americas in Global Affairs today. I went through Ms. Breadner's PowerPoint presentation on the topic, and showed you part of a video from the U.S. History series "U.S. and the World". Please remember that on Thursday you have your Civil War and Reconstruction Exam (multiple choice, matching, and source analysis), the study guide is on the wiki. On Friday you are writing a Paper 3 essay on the Civil War and Reconstruction. We'll continue with the Emergence of the Americas unit next week.

I gave back some homework checked assignments at the beginning of the class. We finished off the A & E Biography "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler". I gave you some notes on the League of Nations today, we talked about the successes and failures of the League. I taught you the mnemonic FAILURe of the League of Nations. You'll need to apply case studies to illustrate the League's failures, namely the Japanese invasion of Manchuria and the Italian invasion of Abyssinia. You have your Unit 2 WRA I assignment on Friday, review how to write a WRA I. Your Chapter 6 Key Terms and Questions are due on October 22nd (one week from today).

I did a homework check on "Philosophies of Industrialism" at the beginning of class. I went through the emergence of welfare capitalism and modern liberalism in response to classical liberalism. This is led to me covering the Great Depression briefly and Keynesian economics. We looked at the Keynesian economic responses (monetary and fiscal policy) to various stages of the business cycle. If you missed class today, you should get notes from a classmate.

I went through Keynesian economics again, specifically giving you a detailed booklet on both fiscal and monetary policy. We also started a video called "FDR and the New Deal" from the BBC 20th Century History series. We'll finish this video tomorrow. As you watched this video, you should have been taking notes.
