We finished off watching the film "Shake Hands with the Devil" today. The post-viewing questions are due on Monday. On Monday, November 25th, you will also be writing the Unit 2 WRA I (three source interpretation). You will NOT be allowed to have the writing guide out for this one






We started to transition from our case study on Japanese expansionism, to our second case study in Prescribed Subject 3. We watched an episode of "Love, Hate and Propaganda" called 'The Strongmen', and we also watched parts of the episode called 'Selling the War'. I gave you a homework assignment that needs to be completed by Monday, November 25th.

We went through the sample Paper 1 that you got yesterday, and talked about your answers to questions 9-11 that you worked on last night. We then tackled question 12 in small groups and discussed possible ways to approach the mini-essay. You're writing the Paper 1 on Japanese Expansionism tomorrow. You'll have 5 minutes to read the sources and 60 minutes to write it. We finished off the CNN documentary "Scream Bloody Murder" today. I also collected your Unit 2 Research Projects as well. Tomorrow, we'll look at the Rwandan genocide in greater detail.


We'll finish preparing for the position paper tomorrow, and we'll move on to Unit 3 material tomorrow as well. Please work on your argumentation tonight, and start planning out what evidence you will use to support your position. You're writing the Unit 2 WRA II Essay on Thursday in the Blenheim Room. I went through a lecture on the Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor today. I also gave you a homework assignment tonight, it's a Paper 1 sample. Please complete questions 9-11. We'll go through the questions tomorrow in class, and then we will go through question 12 in small groups. We continued looking at parliamentary democracy and presidential democracy today. We looked the structure of the Canadian government and the American government, types of electoral systems, first past the post (FPTP) and proportional representation (PR). We also looked at the electoral college system. You had time today to work on your US-Canada Comparative Government Assignment, which is due on Monday. Make sure that you hand in a hard copy of this assignment. You should also read Chapter 10 and work on the Chapter 10 Google Doc this weekend as well. We talked a little bit about arms reduction talks, detente, deterrence, and mutually assured destruction (MAD) today. We also watched "Good Night, and Good Luck" and looked at the Cold War concept of McCarthyism. We also looked at the concept of positive and negative freedoms. We then transitioned into Unit 3 material by looking at democratic systems, namely parliamentary and presidential systems in Canada and the USA.
