October 16

Thursday, October 17th in the Main Gym (Social Studies)
1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

You wrote the Ideological Reaction to Industrialization Test today in class. The results of the test will be posted on PowerSchool today. There's no school tomorrow due to Interviews.

We finished off the documentary "Paris 1919", and we had a lock down drill today as well so it was quite eventful. There's no classes tomorrow. I'll see you back at school on Friday.

Both classes spent time in Room 111 going through how to write a Paper 3 on the Great Depression and the Americas. You'll be writing the Paper 3 on Friday, October 18th. We also covered some Alberta Social 30-1 curriculum outcomes by reviewing the economic and political spectrum, classical and modern liberalism, and how the economic systems response to the various stages of the business cycle. You should have a very good grasp of demand-side and supply-side economics after today's class.

Make sure that you have completed the following assignments related to the Great Depression unit before you write your Paper 3 on Friday:

  • Challenges to the New Deal (on the IB 30/35 wiki)
  • Was the First New Deal a planned programme or simply a series of unrelated measures to deal with specific problems? (pages 98-100)
  • New Deal Programs Chart (you worked with a partner on this Google Doc)
  • How much impact did the New Deal have on American politics and the economy? (make a note-taking chart, content pages 126-128)
  • Great Depression in Canada and Latin America comparison chart
