September 23


You went down to the Business Office to pick up the textbooks that you're going to need moving forward in the IB History course. We finished off the lecture on "The League of Nations" today. Please check out the Paper 2 page on the IB 30/35 wiki tonight, and go over your IB command terms, and prescribed content for tomorrow's quiz. The WW I Quiz will have 15-20 multiple choice questions and a short answer question. The rough draft of your IA is due on September 30th



I went through the differences between argumentation and evidence today. Tomorrow, we'll talk about the recipe for success for writing WRA II Essays. Make sure that you have gone through the French Revolution and Industrial Revolution sections of the lecture on "The Development of Classical Liberalism" that I delivered last week.  




We finished off the lecture on "The Development of Canadian Confederation" today. Tomorrow, we'll be talking Quebecois nationalism. Make sure that you work on your French Revolution DBA Assignment, it's due on Wednesday, September 25th (I've corrected this date on the blog). Your Chapter 3 Key Terms and Questions are due in one week.

You wrote the Unit 1 Final Exam today, and I've already posted the results in PowerSchool. I went through a PowerPoint lecture called "Responding to Classical Liberalism and Industrialization". As I lectured you were to take notes on the corresponding note-taking chart in your Social 30-1 coursebooks. You can also find this lecture on the wiki (available for digital download, and Google Slides version) as well as in your Social 30-1 coursebooks. You should review this lecture this weekend. Over the weekend you should read Chapters 3 and 4 in Perspectives on Ideologies, and work on the Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 Google Docs as well. You wrote your Unit 1 WRA I today in class as well. You'll be writing the Unit 1 WRA II Essay (position paper) on Wednesday, and writing the Ideological Reaction to Industrialization Test on Thursday (please see the study guide below). Make sure that you have your myPass account all set up (myPass link) and that you are registered to write your Social Studies 30-1 Diploma Exams at Lord Beaverbrook. Part A of the Diploma is on Friday, August 2nd, and Part B is on Thursday, August 8th.





  • Unit 1 WRA II Essay is on Wednesday, July 10th
  • Ideological Reaction to Industrialization Test (Chapters 3 and 4) is on Thursday, July 11th
  • Read Chapters 3 and 4 by Monday's class (July 8th)

  • Edmund Burke and classical conservatism
5. Some questions may require you to make connections between this year's material and what you learned in 10-1 and 20-1 as well

We continued with our simulation of the Constitutional Convention today. Tomorrow will be the last period for this simulation, so a few of you who haven't spoken yet really need to speak up during tomorrow's session. Please remember that you must submit your point form research notes tomorrow at the conclusion of the simulation. Please remember that you are writing the American Revolution Test on Thursday, October 4th, please see the study guide below.



There will be 20 matching and 45 multiple-choice questions.

Know the various Acts that took place before/during the Revolution:

* Intolerable Acts

Causes of the Revolution:

* Significant events that led up to the Revolutionary War – chronological order

We continued looking at the Industrial Revolution and the ideologies that emerged in response to the classical liberalism and capitalism. We looked the welfare capitalism and modern liberalism, the Great Depression and Keynesian economics today. Your Chapter 4 Key Terms and Questions are due on Friday.
