March 13

I collected your Dictator Project at the beginning of class. We went through a quick review of some basic economic concepts at the beginning of class as well. We started our examination of a market economy today. We watched a short video called "Capitalism", and while you were watching this video you were taking some notes on key points. If you missed today's class, you will need to get these notes from a classmate. Also, I gave you a handout that covered the characteristics of a market economy and the advantages and disadvantages of a market economy. Your Dictatorship Final Exam is on Monday, March 16th, here is the study guide. Your Political Systems Unit Final (democracies and dictatorships) is on Thursday, March 19th, here is the study guide.

I collected your map of Europe in World War I assignment at the beginning of class today. I gave you a booklet called "Making Peace" which had you look at the different perspectives and positions of the Big Three at the Paris Peace Conference. I also gave you a handout called "The Interwar Years Timeline". You MUST read this booklet over the weekend. This is testable material! We are moving in to our next period of study, the years between the wars, the Interwar Years. I will be doing a homework check on Monday to see if you have printed off your "The Causes of World War I" and "Allied Victory and the Paris Peace Conference" PowerPoint presentations. If you are not sure about how to print these off, go to the search box at the top of the blog, and enter "Printing PowerPoint Presentations", you should be taken to a post where I have given instructions for printing.

I have sent you your Position Paper #2 topic sheet, so please check your e-mail when you get home. You have plenty of time to prepare for this position paper, you will be writing it on Monday, March 30th. For some of you, who didn't do so well on Position Paper #1, this is a huge opportunity to improve your mark. Written assignments count for 30% of your school-awarded mark in Social 30, and we're doing 3 position papers this semester, so think of this position paper as being worth 10% of your course work. Prepare accordingly! You have your Market Economy and Mixed Economy Exam on Monday, March 16th (it's 70 multiple choice questions). Here is the study guide (scroll down to find it).
