Today was the last day of summer school. You wrote the Trial Final, and I posted the results on PowerSchool. I also informed you of your school-awarded mark in Social 30-1, this mark counts for 70% of your mark in the course. The rest of your mark (the remaining 30%) comes from the two-part Diploma Exam. Please check out the dates of the Diploma Exam below. Please remember that you are writing both parts of the Diploma at Lord Beavebrook High School (9019 Fairmount Dr SE), so make sure that you plan out how you are getting to the test writing site in advance of the Diploma Exam.

You wrote your Unit 2 Final Exam today, the results have been posted on PowerSchool. You are writing more tests this week, please see the upcoming important dates below. I went through the PowerPoint lecture called "Political Challenges to Liberalism" today. We went through some key terms and organized these terms based on whether they were characteristics of parliamentary democracy, presidential democracy, both or neither. We then looked at the Modern History of China Notes from the Social 30-1 coursebooks, and watched a couple of videos from the BBC 20th Century History series called "One Man's Revolution" and "China since Mao". I started another lecture today called "The Imposition of Liberalism", I'll finish this one of tomorrow after you write the Unit 3 WRA I. You'll be writing the Unit 3 WRA I in Room 109. We continued looking at parliamentary democracy and presidential democracy today. We looked the structure of the Canadian government and the American government, types of electoral systems, first past the post (FPTP) and proportional representation (PR). We also looked at the electoral college system. You had time today to work on your US-Canada Comparative Government Assignment, which is due on Monday. Make sure that you hand in a hard copy of this assignment. You should also read Chapter 10 and work on the Chapter 10 Google Doc this weekend as well. You wrote the Market and Mixed Economy Test at the beginning of the class. I gave back the Unit 1 WRA I Chart Assignment and the Unit 1 WRA II Essay today as well. We watched the A & E Biography "The Fatal Attraction of Adolf Hitler", and as you watched the video, you should have taken point form notes in your Social 30-1 course books. We went through some notes in your course books on non-democratic systems and democratic systems, the similarities and differences between communism and fascism, and totalitarianism You should work on the Chapter 7 Google Doc tonight. Chapter 7 covers the Cold War, and there are a lot of key terms to work on in the Google Doc. Make sure that you read Chapter 7 today. We continued looking at the command economy today. 

You should prepare yourself for a position paper on Tuesday, and the theme of the source will be economics. We also did a couple of practice cartoon interpretations at the end of the class (right before the exit slip), and I'm posting the cartoons that we looked at here on the blog. You wrote another exit slip at the end of the day too.
