Most of you will probably use Google for your image search. Just type in your image search term. I typed in The Holocaust.

A bunch of different images will pop up. Just click on one that you like. I clicked on the first image and a pop-up screen will show you the image more closely.

Click on "View Image". In the address bar you will see a specific URL for the image. This is what you need for your image citation. It should end in either .jpg or .png. or .svg or some other file extension that indicates that it is an image file.

If you're working in Microsoft Word, click on the References tab. You can select the Style of citation here (MLA, Chicago, APA, etc.). If you need to insert an in-text citation, you click on Insert Citation. If you want to start building a Bibliography, you can Insert Citation or Manage Sources.

You'll get a pop-up dialogue box like the one pictured below. I filled in the fields for the image that I picked. There are also online citation machines available as well, such as EasyBib (http://www.easybib.com/)

You can find this assignment in your Social 20-1 study booklets (pages 32-34) or on the Social 20-1 wiki on the Unit 1 Assignments page. You wrote your Chapter 1-2 Test today. I'm not sure if I'll be able to give you your results back tomorrow or not, it's more likely that it will be next week. As you watched the video, you should have taken notes on it on the Google Doc that I shared with all of you. Please check your Google Drive as well tonight because I shared a VERY valuable PDF that will help you out on not only tomorrow's Paper 2 on the origins of the Cold War, but also on the entire Cold War unit (**wink wink**).

When I stopped today's video when Sputnik was launched I also started talking about how some people think that the Apollo moon landing was a hoax. I said that I'd seen a video on the subject and how the conspiracy theories can be refuted by looking at how difficult it would have been to fake the lunar landing, I'm embedding the video below:

We finished watching "Bend it Like Beckham" today, and I gave you some time to finish up the film study guide that went along with this film. You're going to be handing in that film study booklet tomorrow for homework check marks. You are writing your Chapter 3-4 Test this Friday (please see the study guide below), and your Unit 1 Final Exam one week from today, on March March 7th (please see the study guide below). You are writing your Unit 1 WRA I on March 6th, and I will give you some sample political cartoons and tips for the writing the three source analysis assignment in Thursday's class.

Unit 1 Final Exam will be Tuesday, March 7th. The format for the exam is entirely multiple choice. It will consist of 55 multiple choice questions, 60-65% of the questions will be "source-based" questions, while the remainder will be simply knowledge and comprehension style questions. In other words, the source-based questions will use political cartoons, timelines, a chart or diagram, a graph, a reading, a photo or a map, and you will have answer questions related to that source. The source-based questions will be difficult to prepare for. You must have a firm grasp of the concepts and key terms that were introduced in Unit 1, because that will allow you to apply the knowledge that you have to answer the multiple choice questions.

Please study your key terms from Chapters 1-5, and the topics covered in that unit.
1. Key Terms/Key Concepts in Unit 1:

I went through how to write a WRA I assignment today in class. All of the handouts that you got today, you will be able to use while you are writing tomorrow's WRA I. I also took in your French Revolution DBA assignment today, so if you didn't hand this in you have lost 10% on this assignment. There were four of you that didn't hand it in, but only two of you have a legitimate excuse for not getting it in today. You may have guessed that I have already marked this assignment, you'll get it back tomorrow (if someone reminds me). One week from today, you will be writing your Chapter 3-4 Test, please see the study guide below.

This quiz will be on Tuesday, March 7th. It will consist of a matching section (10 key concepts) and a short answer section.

We had another day of TOK presentations today. We are back on schedule for tomorrow's presentations (which we will start during Tutorial) thanks to the History group of Yanchen, Yu Ming, and Akhil staying into their lunch break to present. Please remember that you have a Paper 2 on Friday on the origins of the Cold War. Visit the wiki for articles on historiography on this topic, as well as historiography on the Korean War.

We finished watching "Bend It Like Beckham" today in class. You had some time to finish off the questions/charts in the film study booklet. I'll be taking this booklet in tomorrow for homework check completion marks. Please remember that your Illustrated Concept Map is due on Monday, February 29th. Please see what I've posted below on using APA to cite the sources that you use. Also, please remember that you're writing your Chapter 3-4 Test next Wednesday (March 2nd), and you can find the study guide below. You're writing a Unit 1 WRA I (three source analysis) next Thursday, so I'll be teaching you how to write them tomorrow.

  • Know the key terms from Chapter 3-4
  • Be able to answer the Questions for Inquiry in Chapters 3-4 (they appear on p.49, p.53, p.58, p.73, p.80)
  • Know relevant case studies from Chapters 3-4: the Francophones, the Aborigines and the Lubicon, as well as other relevant examples related to assimilation, marginalization, accommodation and integration

This should help Social 10-1 students who are working on their Illustrated Concept Map Assignments...

Most of you will probably use Google for your image search. Just type in your image search term.

A bunch of different images will pop up. Just click on one that you like. Go to the website where the image is hosted.

Right click on the image and then click on "Properties" and then you'll get the address of the image.

The pop up dialogue box will look something like this.

This is where it's nice to have either Microsoft Word 2007 or later because it has a built-in reference tab that makes it easy to cite your sources. Click on the References tab, make sure it is set to APA. If you click on Insert Citation or Bibliography, you'll get a pop up that will look something like this. I've put in the information for the image that I used in this example.

Today was a work period in Social 30-1. You had the period to work on a couple of items that are due for homework. The first assignment is due tomorrow, and it's called "The Philosophies of Industrialism". You were to read, highlight, and answer the questions for this activity which can be found in your blue Social 30-1 workbooks on pages 26-44. Also, if you finished this off in class, you could have start working on your Chapter 4 Key Terms and Questions, these aren't due until Wednesday, March 2nd.

We're starting these presentations on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. I've included a link on the TOK page on the IB 30/35 wiki for the TOK presentation schedule.

At the beginning of class, I did a homework check on your Chapter 3 Key Terms. Please remember that your Chapter 3 Questions are due tomorrow. We also listened to a NPR podcast that discussed Keynesian economics and how the Obama administration was giving Keynesian economics a real-world test in 2009. September 24

Sorry, I forgot to post this yesterday.

We finished off Episode 3 of Ken Burns' "The Civil War". This will be your last weekend to finish off the rough draft of your IA. The rough draft of your IA is due on September 30th.

I did a homework check on the "Philosophies of Industrialism" activity from your Social 30-1 study booklet. We covered the transformation of classical liberalism to welfare capitalism (and the differences between this term in the USA and the rest of the world) to modern liberalism. I reviewed the business cycle and how Keynesian economics (demand-side economics) uses monetary and fiscal policy to smooth out fluctuations in the marketplace. Your Chapter 4 Key Terms and Questions are due on September 30th.

We continued our film study of "Bend it Like Beckham". We'll be able to finish off this film on Monday. Please remember that you are writing your Chapter 3-4 Test on Tuesday, September 29th, please see the study guide below.
