January 8

I gave you back the practice Unit 1 Final Exam and we went over some "problematic" questions. I then had you do a Unit 2 practice test. You'll get the results of this practice test on Thursday. You will be writing your Part A of your final exam tomorrow. Please make sure that you are reviewing course material EVERY night. Take advantage of the review hints that I gave you as part of your Final Exam Study Guide. Try to anticipate possible topics for Part A of your exam.

We went over some "difficult" questions from the Social 20 practice final that I gave you yesterday. You started working on another practice final with a partner today in class, and you'll finish that off tomorrow, and then we'll go over the answers in class. On Thursday, you'll be writing a 'practice final exam", but this time it will count for marks. This is a wake-up call for you to get out of holiday mode, and start studying for your final exam.

For the Part A of our Final Exam tomorrow, are the sources going to be 100% cartoons? Or will it be a mix of cartoons, maps, charts and graphs?

SS-10.

It's a mix of different types of sources.

how much is the written part of the exam worth? Is it worth a lot?

Here is the way it breaks down: the mark that I posted on the blackboard today is your course mark. Your course mark counts for 75% of your final report card mark in Social 10-1. Your final exam in total is worth 25% of your final report card grade. Your final exam will be made up of two parts: Part A, which will make up 15%, and Part B (next Thursday; 100 MC questions) which will be worth 85%. Does this help? In the grand scheme of things, Part A won't destroy your mark, but doing poorly on Part A and Part B can pull your mark down.
