2. Look at what I have emphasized in class (Causes of WWI, nature of WWI, armistice, Paris Peace Conference, Treaty of Versailles, the Interwar Years, rise of ultranationalism in Germany, Italy and Japan): this will be the emphasis of the test, there are several topics in your textbook Chapters 5-6 that WILL NOT be on this test, especially if it is event that occurs AFTER the events listed above (so things like Canada's role in Afghanistan, and Arctic sovereignty won't be on the test)

3. Focus your review on the following big concepts:

I showed you a video from the Turning Points of History on the atomic bomb building project. You should have taken notes on this topic while you watched the video. I also introduced you to the Unit 2 Research Project. If you're in my Period 1 class we didn't get to the topic draft, so we'll have to do that tomorrow. We're booked into the library tomorrow to do some preliminary research on your chosen topic. Period 1 and 4 class: please come to my class first tomorrow, and then we'll go down to the library together (Period 1 after we do the draft).


We finished off the BBC documentary "10 Questions About Democracy". These questions, plus your printed of political compass. I next talked about "Types of Democratic Systems" today, but didn't quite finish it.

You would have watched a documentary on the Nuremberg Trials today in class. This wraps up our investigation of the Holocaust. We'll be doing the draw for the Unit 2 research project topics in Monday's class. There's no school tomorrow because of Remembrance Day.


You watched a BBC documentary today called "10 Questions About Democracy". As you watched this film you should have completed the answers to the questions in the booklet provided. You also have a homework assignment this long weekend: you must go to http://www.politicalcompass.org, and click on "take the test". I want you to print off your results and bring it to class on Monday, your result sheet will look like an economic-political grid. You also have to complete the individualism-collectivism booklet for homework due Monday. There's no school tomorrow because of Remembrance Day.

I showed you the HBO documentary on Reagan today. Unfortunately, we didn't finish it off, and I don't think we'll have enough time to finish it off in the last two days.


We finished off the film study for "Life + Debt" today, and then moved on to "The Corporation" film study. We'll continue watching this documentary for the rest of the week. We started class today by watching a video called "The Roaring Twenties" from the U.S. History series. You then had the remainder of class time to work on the 1920s Study Guide. You were to bring your United States and Its People textbook to class today, and use it answer the questions from the 1920s Study Guide. The most useful chapter in the textbook to answer the questions would be Chapter 20: The Twenties: Blowing the Lid Off 1919-1928. This study guide is due on Wednesday. Please remember that you're writing your Paper 1 tomorrow.

Your Unit 2 Research Project was due in class today. If this project is handed in late, you lose 10% off in marks for every day that it is late. I also did a homework check on your "Gandhi" film study. We tied up some loose ends in the Unit 2 material today by covering the case study of Kosovo declaring its independence in 2008. We watched a CBC News in Review video on this topic. Despite the delays with the fire alarm, we were able to finish off the "1920s Conservatism in the USA" PowerPoint presentation. Please bring your United States and Its People textbooks to class on Monday. You are writing your Paper 1 on Prescribed Subject 1 on Tuesday, November 26th. This is your last weekend to prepare for it, so I suggest that you work very methodically through the Paper 1 duotang, and do some research into historiography for the various topics that the sources potentially could be on with the Paper 1. Use this long weekend to your advantage!

I continued lecturing today on the Paris Peace Conference and the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. We will continue to look at this topic next week.

We finished watching "Gandhi", I really hope that you enjoyed this film. I am sending you a PowerPoint presentation this afternoon that covers plagiarism, which will be useful to you when you are putting together your Unit 2 Dossiers (they are due on November 29th). Your Chapter 7-8 Test is on Thursday, November 24th, please see the study guide here. Your Chapter 8 Key Terms and Questions are due Monday, November 21st. Your "Gandhi" Film Study is due on Tuesday, November 22nd, you must hand in the colonial background questions, the content questions and the thought questions.


We started looking at Unit 3 material today. If you missed today's class you will have to get these notes from a classmate. We also watched a video from BBC World called "10 Questions About Democracy" (here is a link to the companion website if you'd like to hear what people had to say again). You are responsible for finishing the entire film study that went along with this video for Monday's class (I'll be doing a homework check on it, and in all likelihood, we'll be able to discuss some of the questions in the video). Your Chapter  8 Key Terms and Questions are due on Thursday, November 24th. Please remember that you have your Unit 2 Final Exam on Tuesday, November 22nd, please see the study guide below. Please make sure that you complete the Political Compass survey (go to http://www.politicalcompass.org/, click on "Take the Test", answer the questions honestly, print off your results). I also gave back the results of your Chapter 7 Test as well today.

We also watched a video from BBC World called "10 Questions About Democracy" (here is a link to the companion website if you'd like to hear what people had to say again). You are responsible for finishing the entire film study that went along with this video for tomorrow's class (I'll be doing a homework check on it, and in all likelihood, we'll be able to discuss some of the questions in the video). You have another homework assignment tonight: please go to the following website-Political Compass, complete the political survey (from the left-hand navigation menu, click on "Take the test"), print off where you fall in the economic-political grid and bring it to class tomorrow. We'll be able to talk about this tomorrow. Please remember that you have your Unit 2 Final Exam on Thursday, please check out the study guide here (scroll down to find it). I also gave back the results of your Chapter 7 Test as well today. Please check your e-mail today because I will be sending you a copy of the "10 Questions About Democracy" video study and I will also be sending you a handout that looks at positive and negative freedoms (I'm trying to clear up some confusion about this concept; this relates to material in Chapter 8).
