June 12

I've sent you a lot of materials tonight via e-mail. I sent you a practice final. I would like you to take this final very seriously, use actual testing conditions, in other words don't write the test as if it were an open book test. I will post the answer key to this practice exam on the blog tomorrow. Please do not post answers or ask for help on this practice exam here on the blog. You can ask questions about the practice exam tomorrow. I have also sent you the Social 10 Key Concept Review List, please print it off, that's going to be helpful in your review. Keep studying!

You wrote your Social 20 Practice Final Exam today in class. Please bring study materials with you tomorrow to class. You'll also get some more time to finish off the test. We'll go over the answers to the test tomorrow in class, and then we'll analyze ones that you had problems with. Keep studying!

SS 20-4
Unfortunately, a lot of people didn't do that homework assignment, so what I'm going to do is copy and paste it all into one big Word document and send it off.

For the jeopardy was it counted as an actual homework assignment, like worth marks? I hope so! Also, for the practice fimal we are doing can it please be counted as bonus marks?? Or like can we chose to use it for bonus marks depending on how well we do? PLEASE

SS 20-4:
I didn't count the multiple choice questions as a homework check, so maybe that had something to do with the number of responses that I had. No big deal. It wouldn't make or break your mark in Social 20. I will be sending it out tonight. The Practice Final is just for practice, not for marks. Hopefully it will be an eye-opener.

The Canada Council was created by the Massey Commission (this is in your textbook). The Canada Council helps fund the arts in Canada. Melting pot is a term that's usually used to refer to the United States cultural composition, and the fact that America expects new immigrants to assimilate far more than we do in Canada. The coat of arms was an assignment that you did during the Identity unit, it would be helpful to know some of the symbolism in our coat of arms. If you're still not sure what it looks like simply do an image search through Google and use the search term "Canadian coat of arms" and you should get something. An alderperson is an elected city councillor. Topography is another way of saying physical geography.

On our key terms list it just says Napoleon, so do we need to know like his life story about the military academy and stuff or the battles he was in while in power.. what exactly are we supposed to know about him, do we need to know how he favored military and things like what exactly do we need to know about him. Also what is the lycee system??

Anonymous said...

The print-off for Napoleon is that the "how did France change under Napoleon" one???

9:51 p.m.: Yes, find that print off.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Sorry Aaron, I only have a copy of that Practice Final at the school.

so just what's on that print-off that's all I should know about napoleon then? Do we need to know like which battles he wasdefeated at and where he was executed and why and stuff do we need to know his foreign and domestic policies??

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You do need to know a fair bit about Napoleon, but the important things would definitely be to focus on his foreign policy, the Napoleonic Wars, and his domestic acheivements. The lycee system, is the system of high schools in France.

What do I need to know about Metternich?

Anonymous said...

Do I need to know anything specfically about Bismarck or just that he led Germany to unification?

Anonymous said...

I doubt your still up but if you get this message before SS class tomorrow can you please go over results of imperialism, who Rudyard Kipling was, THe white man's burden, and the significances of the Moroccan, Fashoda, and Balkan crises?? i can't seem to find any of this anywhere, some of it I think I know but I just want to make sure.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Metternich was a key player in the Congress of Vienna (check the PowerPoint presentation). Know as much as possible about him, and related concepts like legitimacy and reactionary. With Bismarck know a little about his foreign policy and his role in German unification. The Fashoda Crisis is in your textbook, on pages 186-187. The Moroccan and Balkan crises were both in a PowerPoint presentation. Also, when we did Chapter 12 I had you read about these two events and take notes on them, they're on pages 224-225 in your textbook.
