June 9

We finished watching "Talking to Americans" today in class. I also gave you a "Talking to Canadians" type quiz, the answers to which are posted in the comments section.

Here are the students that I have heard from regarding the Find the Fib game:

  • Jordan
  • Baba
  • Manpreet
  • Vivian T.
  • Corliss
  • Vikram
  • Devin
  • Peter
  • KJ

I would still like to play this game, so I need to hear from 3 more groups between Social 10-1 and Social 10-2. If you see that I haven't heard from someone in your group, please encourage them to submit their Find the Fib work!

You wrote your Topic B Unit Final today in class.

Anonymous said...

I think only Canada's role like the Avro Arrow stuff and the NORAD and stuff

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I'm going to answer some questions:
No, there's not enough information in the PowerPoint presentations, but they will be very helpful. Study the Cold War, I'm not going to say what you specifically need to know, just know the material in the PowerPoint and any other textbook questions I may have assigned. I have one practice exam for Social 10 now scanned into PDF format. I will try to send it out either tonight or tomorrow.

Norhtern Development

equalization polices
-thats all for now...but if anyone knows plz tell me where these concepts are?!

so no body knows??

Quebec Seperatism is found in the French-English relations powerpoint and anything with Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords in it. Equalization policies were found in the booklet along with NEPs that focused on Western Alienation. Special Status was all through the rights and responsibilities unit. I cant think of the others

I'll try to help. Third parties could refer to non-mainstream political parties or have to do with the arbitration/mediation process. Quebece separtism is in the French-English Relations PowerPoint. Also know about the Meech Lake Accord and Charlottetown Accord and the referendums in Quebec in 1980 and 1995. For "demands for special status" please see the Meech Lake Accord and Charlottetown Accord (there was a reason for those charts). NEP is in the textbook, it's the National Energy Program introduced by Trudeau. Equalization is in the Regional Disparties PowerPoint rpesentation. Know that a First Ministers' Conference is when a PM meets with all the provincial premiers.

Symbols of nationalism? Hmmm, with regard to what we studied in Social 20 that would refer to things like a national anthem, a flag and things like that. During the French Revolution you start to see the growth of these "symbols of nationalism" with the creation of the French national anthem and the adoption of the three colored French flag. Don't worry about this point too much.
