September 8

In case you missed class today, here is what you missed:

I gave you the entire class period to work on your mapping assignment. Those maps are due on Monday. They must be labeled and colored correctly. I will post a few maps and hyperlinks to complete this assignment, in case you don't have access to an atlas at home. I also sent you a short message through the e-mail distribution list. The message was "ping" respond back with a "pong".

Here's a map of Canada that might be helpful to you (click on the picture for a larger view).

There's a link on the right hand side of the blog under Social 10 Links to the Atlas of Canada. Here's a shortcut to the Atlas that may be useful to you since it has large maps of the provinces and territories. Have a good weekend, see you on Monday!

* I have sent you a package via e-mail that you need to print off! Please check your e-mail! I sent it out Sunday night at 5:10 p.m.

I delivered a presentation today on the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. I will be sending out this presentation later today, so please let me know if you don't receive it. Also, your homework assignment this weekend is to read pages 5-12 in the textbook and to complete the Enlightenment Thinkers chart that I will be sending to you by e-mail. We will take up the chart in class...be prepared! Have a great weekend!

There are some blank maps that you can print off from the Atlas of Canada website. Just click on the hyperlink on the right hand side of the blog, and then click on "reference maps" and then click on "Canada Outline". I'm sure that you'll be able to find one that works for you.

I recived the email of the enlightenment presentation, and I would like to print it off. I do remember you saying you could print off the powepoint pages so that there are more then one slide on each page. How do I do that?

In PowerPoint click on File, then click on Print. You'll get a printing dialogue box pop up. In this dialogue box where it says "Print What" click on the arrow to get the pull down menu, and select "Handouts". You'll then get to choose how many slides you want to have printed off on each page. Probably 2-4 slides per page would still be readable. You should also choose "Grayscale" and save your print cartridge a bit, if you use "color" it will use up your cartridge too fast.

hey mr.gilchrist are you done marking our letters to you? and are you going to let us have a look at our marks on monday.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

I don't mark your letters. I keep them for the entire term. It's a way for me to get to know a little bit about you, and to get a sample of your writing.

Is all the information for the enlightenment chart found in pages 5 to 12 in our textbooks? "how these ideas different from those of feadal society" is hard to find in the textbook.

for the chart, can we do it on teh computer adn then print it at teh end or do we have to print it adn then do it by hand?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You can do it by hand or on the computer and then print it off. I'll go over the answers in class to the chart, but you may have to "read between the lines" a bit. For example, with Voltaire, you would put that his ideas challenged the authority of the Church and that there were no individual rights in a feudal society. Don't stress about it too much, but try to fill in as much as possible so you don't have a lot to fill in during class time when I'm taking it up with you.

hey mr g, do we have to write the province names on the physical map for social 10-1???

Anonymous said...

mr.g For the physical map do we have to colour USA and Greenland a diff. colour than Canada?

Anonymous said...

mr g, where would u find St. John on the Political map?

Anonymous said...

mr. g
could we put all of the provinces on the political map in abreviations

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You don't have to write the province names on the physical map. Color Greenland and the USA a different color than Canada. You can use abbreviations for the provinces on the political map. There's a St. John in New Brunswick and there's a St. John's in Newfoundland, so be careful.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You don't have to put the province names on the physical map. Check the assignment sheet, you only label the provinces on the political map.

hey mr g, do we have to colour the u.s. and greenland at all, or can we just leave them white, and do we have to out line water on the political map??

Kevin Gilchrist said...

It looks better if you color the USA and Greenland. You have to outline the country with water on both maps.

I sent out a package to Social 10-1 that you need to print off. Please make sure that you print it off tonight!

for the enlightment chart, can we get the information from the presentation you sent us? or does it have to be from the text book.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

You can use either source to help yourself complete that chart. The textbook goes into greater detail than the presentation however.

Oh no! I just came home today, and when I checked my email for the Enlightenment Thinkers chart you were supposed to send, I didn't recieve it. I realize that this is very late, but I don't know what to do... I'm all ready to write it out but I'm not sure what to write on, or what template to use in making my chart.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Send me an e-mail, and I'll reply back with the chart and presentation as an attachment.
