December 1

Sorry, I completely forgot to post on the blog tonight. It doesn't look like anyone missed out anyway. We've been busy getting things ready for my son's birthday party tomorrow, and we went to his Christmas concert tonight. But enough excuses.

In Social 10, we continued talking about the connections between the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We also discussed some issues related to the Charter. No homework this weekend, spend some time with your family and friends!

In Social 20 we talked about some population terminology. We'll be watching some videos next week that should help improve your understanding of these concepts. Don't forget that your WWI Dossier Project is due on Monday.

Instructions:
For this assignment you will be required to create a “dossier” on a selected topic of importance to the First World War. Available topics are included in this assignment sheet. You may choose to work on this assignment individually or with a partner, you are NOT permitted to have three people working in your group. A marking guide for this assignment is also included, as is the format/requirements of the dossier. Try to make this project as well-produced as possible.

What is a “Dossier”?
A dossier is essentially a file folder (legal or letter size) which contains information on a given topic. The dossier is “dressed up” a bit though.

Format/Requirements:
Front Cover of the File Folder
• Title of your topic
• It must use the whole cover
• The cover may be illustrated by hand or by other means
• You can make it seem as though the cover is a diorama or a collage

Inside the File Folder
• Information, Artifacts, Pictures must be inside the folder
• Information may be typed or hand printed
• Information can be point form
• Artifacts can include maps, pictures, graphs, speeches, advertisements, diary entries, memoirs, etc.
• Artifacts are to be used to “spice up” the dossier
• Use the information to cover the basics of your topic
• Use 3-4 information articles and 3-4 artifacts

Back Cover
• Please include a list of properly cited references for this project
• Diversify the types of sources you use!
• You are required to use at least two print sources, and at least two Internet based sources (CD-ROM, Online Encyclopedia, or websites)

Evaluation:
• Front Cover of Dossier /5
• Content/Information /10
• Artifacts /10
• References /5
• TOTAL /30

Which ones?

----------------
Yes. If it's something online, you reference the website where you found it, not say Google images or Yahoo images because those are the search engines that you used to find the pictures.
