June 11

Social 10-1 Students: Please hand in your textbooks today!

I posted the times that you can find me at school over the next few days just outside my classroom. I'm in either R4 or Room 108 tomorrow between 8:30 and 3:30 (keeping in mind that I will probably be out for lunch at the noon hour), and on Friday from 9:30 to 2:30. I posted your course marks going into the final exam in my classroom as well.

We played a review game for part of the class period today. Please use the study guide that I gave you in class to focus your review. If you have any questions please feel free to post them here in the comments section. I wish you all the best on Part B of the Final Exam (100 multiple choice questions), I created it, so you know that it will be a tough, but fair test. Your Final Exam is Monday, June 16th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Main Gym. Please study hard!! Let's see if you can beat last semester's class average on the Final. It was an absolute pleasure teaching you all this semester. Hopefully you learned a lot, and maybe had a few laughs along the way.

I went through some more of the Social 33 Review PowerPoint. I will be sending this to you today, so please check your e-mail inboxes. Please remember that your Part A (written part) of your Diploma Exam is on Monday, June 16th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Part B is on June 26th from 9:00-11:30 a.m. (multiple choice part) in the Main Gym. Please study hard!! It was a pleasure teaching you this semester. We had some fun I think, and I think that you learned as well. We'll see, but I seriously think a couple of you have a shot at getting 100% on the Diploma, especially if you prepare for it. Good luck to you all!

You get it when you buy your membership. There isn't a school account.

Yes, in the second semester.

What is the method of manufacturing where, "Cars and computers, for example, are often assembled only after they have been ordered by customers."?

sometimes this is called on-demand, but usually they call this "just-in-time" manufacturing and delivery.

Mr G are "Austerity Programs" only associated with the IMF, or with other large global institutions as well?

Mr. G, do we need to memorize the specific dates for the final exam?
(i.e. in 2005 kyoto accord came to force)

-----------------------
Usually they are only associated with the IMF and the World Bank. They are sometimes called structual adjustment programs.

------------------------
Specific dates maybe not, but "big years" are useful, for example the period between 1492 and 1989 being called historical globalization. Things like that. Have a look at the study guide to see where potential years might come in to play.

What's the key difference between integration and accomodation.

-------------------------
Think of the difference this way: with integration it's usually the minority group or individual trying to integrate to some degree into mainstream society. With accomodation, it's the majority making concessions to accomodate the minority group in society.

I'll be in my room probably around 8:30 or so, I'll be having lunch around 11:30 or so, so you'll have about 3 hours to go over past exams.

I will be teaching Social 20-1 next year. I think I have two sections in the first semester. I am not teaching 20-2 next year though.

Mr. G, is the "Simpsons" Jeopardy game for our class only? Because I just heard from a friend of mine that Mr. Johnson's class also used the exact same powerpoint as a review game.

I made that game up last semester, so Mr. Johnson probably "borrowed" it from the S-drive. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, although there's only one Mr. G.

Sorry, I can't tell you what's on or not on the test. Just use the study guide to focus your review.
