I went through a lecture on "The Imposition of Liberalism" today, focusing mostly on how the imposition of liberalism has affected Aboriginal groups in Canada. I'll post this lecture on the wiki today since it's not in your coursebooks. For 30-1 students: remember that your Unit 3 WRA I source interpretation chart is due tomorrow. I continued my lecture on "Joseph Stalin and the USSR" today. If you didn't print off a hard copy of these Google Slides and bring them to class today, please make sure that you do so tomorrow. It is strongly recommended that you not only go through the rest of the Google Slides in the "Joseph Stalin and the USSR" lecture, but also read Chapter 2 in your Authoritarian States textbook. There is a great of information and detail in this textbook, and it has some great summary charts on Stalin's rise to power (p. 30), Stalin's establishment of an authoritarian state (p.45), and Stalin's domestic policies and their impact (p.56), and Stalin's foreign policy (p. 62).

We finished off the "Expansion of Economic Globalization" lecture today. I gave you the TNC Dossier Assignment sheet today, all of you picked a TNC to profile, and I showed you some examples of finished projects. I also gave you a booklet on the WTO, the IMF and the World Bank. I did a homework check on the Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions today. We looked at the case studies of Kosovo and Catalonia today. I gave you some notes on nationalism and the pursuit of national interest, and then I showed you a CBC News in Review from April 2008 on Kosovo declaring independence from Serbia. As you watched the video you were supposed to fill in answers to the video review questions. I also showed you a quick video from the Washington Post on Catalonia's attempts to declare independence from Spain.

I gave you some time at the beginning of class to read through the booklet of readings and maps on WWII from the book "The Map History of the Modern World". You should have read, highlighted and annotated this entire booklet today (if you didn't finish this in class, consider it homework). We watched Episode 7 of WWII in Colour today. We'll be looking at the Normandy invasion tomorrow and wrapping up WWII in the European theatre in tomorrow's class.

We did some housekeeping today at the beginning of class, with me giving back your Unit 3 WRA II Essays and TNC Dossier Assignments. I also showed you the results of Part A of the Final Exam, and your current overall mark going into Part B on Friday, January 19th. Part B of the Final Exam is 80 multiple choice questions, it's worth 15% of your final mark in the course, and you will have 2 hours to write it. Most of you will be in the Main Gym for this exam. We started a film study of "Contagion" today which we'll finish off tomorrow.

I finished off the last bit of the "Globalization and Sustainability" lecture today. I showed you short interview of Jeff Rubin from "The Hour", and his theory that if oil prices climb to triple digit rates that globalization becomes unsustainable. We started Case Study 2 of Prescribed Subject 3 today. I delivered a lecture on "The Impact of Fascism on Italian Foreign Policy". Tomorrow, you'll be watching a Biography video on Benito Mussolini. You're writing your Paper 1 on Case Study 1 Japanese Expansion (1931-1941) on Friday, November 24th. This is a FULL Paper 1, and you'll have 60 minutes to write it.  

The Case Study 1 Review Google Doc is due on Tuesday, November 28th. The chart will be for homework check marks. The sample Paper 1 is for marks. The two mini-essays will also be marked. Do not take extra time to write these assignments. Take 60 minutes to write the sample Paper 1. Take 30 minutes for each mini-essay, 60 minutes total.
