February 6

You had the entire period to work on your map, it is due tomorrow. Please make sure that you have it completed! Here are some reminder instructions for the map:

  • People on the map should be represented by circles, color the circles and make sure there is a number beside each circle
  • Make sure that you have colored the 25 different countries (color the entire country), these countries represent the 25 items that you found for homework last night
  • Make sure that you have labeled every country that you or a classmate has a connection to
  • Choose different colors to represent your different categories (food, clothing, electronics, entertainment)
  • Make sure that you have a detailed key on the back of your map
  • Make sure that you have a title for your map
  • Make sure that you have a simplified key on the front of your map

Here is a useful hyperlink to an online atlas, it's called World Atlas.com , this website is useful if you know what continent the country that you're looking for is located. If you don't know the continent, there is also a "Find Any Country Here" hyperlink that will take you to a scroll down menu which would be useful. Have a look at the picture from the website below if you're not sure where the hyperlink is located. Happy country hunting!

Please make sure that you bring your copy of Perspectives on Globalization to class tomorrow.

I talked a little bit about the origins of the political sprectrum today in class. We then watched a video called "Forms of Government: What's the Score?" and filled out a worksheet to go with it. This video introduced you to different forms of government that can be grouped into two broad categories: rule by many (democratic socialism, representative democracy) and rule by few (absolute monarchy, communism, and fascism). We'll be continuing to look at the political spectrum tomorrow. Please remember that you have homework tonight: Ideas About Political Organization (worksheet) is due tomorrow. Also, please remember that you have an Individualism and Collectivism Quiz on Friday.

for the 16 circles we have to color, do we have to use a different color for every circle? Thanks

Mr.G, I was wondering if we have to color countries other than the 25 we are connected to??
Also, do we color the oceans and the water?

Mr. Gilchrist, when we draw the lines to point at the country, is it okay if the line is diagonal instead of horizontal? Last year our teacher said not to do it that way, but if we draw it all horizontally than there's no room to fit all the Europian countires....

No, pick one color for your 16 circles.

You have to color ones that you and your calssmates are connected to. You don't have label any more than 41 countries total on the world map. You don't have to color the oceans and the water.

Diagonal lines are fine.

Mr. Gilchrist,
For the detailed key on the backside of our map
for listing the 16 people and their names do you want us to associate them with what they were written down as on our bingo sheet?
For example, i have you under "Someone who has traveled to some foreign country"
do you want us to write that aswell on the back of our map?

Yes, that's what the detailed key should be like.

Hey Mr. Gilchrist
I was just wondering if we had to color the countries with the people dots on them all in one color...
Or do we just put the dot, country name, and the number and not color the country?

No, only color countries that you have a connection to.

No, you color the country too. A lot of times that country will also be one of your 25 items countries.

so... we color the people dotted country all one color or different colors?
For example: Bob is under Canada and Jill is under U.S.A. Then do i color both U.S and Canada green or U.S red and Canada green?

also, none of my items are from U.S or Canada. Thank you!

Pick a color for all of your 16 classmates' countries. Say, a light yellow. Have a circle on that country (red). Color all of the countries that same color.

what color do we use if the country is one of categories of the 25 and is also a country that we have a connection to?
