Social 10-1 Question Forum

If you have any questions that you'd like me to answer prior to the Final Exam Part B, simply comment in this question forum. Click on "Comments", post your question, and make sure that you put your initials at the end of the question.
For example,
"What's the difference between integration and accommodation?"
K.G. Social 10-1

FINAL MARKS in Social 10-1 have been posted outside my classroom. When you check your mark, please note that it is the mark that is highlighted yellow, and that, yes, I do round those numbers.

The class average on Part B was 81%, so congratulations! Hopefully you are happy with your individual mark. I do not post your marks on the blog, nor do I send them to you by e-mail. The next time that you're in the school, swing by Room 111 to check your marks. Have a great summer, and good luck on all of your other exams!

-----------------------
APEC is an international organization that is designed to foster trade between Pacific Rim countries. Canada is a member of APEC, as are most Asian countries. That's all that you would really need to know about it.

What is the difference between sustainable prosperity and sustainable development?
J.Z. Social 10-1

----------------------------
Sustainable development is a term used by the United Nations to describe development that meets the needs of people today but not at the expense of people in the future.

Sustainable prosperity means meeting the needs of the present without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Sustainable prosperity also has a more "economic" definition as well that is pro-globalization and ignores environmental concerns. According to supporters of globalization, trade liberalization and free trade, sustainable prosperity means moving towards decreased trade barriers, and increased global trade being the key to providing economic wealth for people in the present and the future. This definition of sustainable prosperity means that people in the developing world need to remove trade barriers, become more involved in the global economy and by doing so will increase the standard of living and quality of life for themselves.

I hope that is cleared up now.
