so basically, for the unit final (social 20), all we have to study is the ideologies chart, and the two ppt presentations? do u recommend us to go thru century of change? is there anything we should study apart from the ones mentioned above?

You need to review those two booklets as well. One of them was on the Industrial Revolution, and the other one dealt with the ideological reaction to industrialization (it was called "Philosophies of Industrialism").

I would avoid re-reading that chapter, unless of course, you never read it in the first place.

The study guide is created by me, looking over the unit final, and making note of the key parts to the test. There are no secrets. I want my tests to be fair, so I try to give you some insight into what the test will look like. Study from the following: "The Industrial Revolution" (ppt), "Ideological Reaction to Industrialization" (ppt), Ideologies Chart (this was a homework assignment that I went over in class), and the two booklets that I gave you that I discussed in an earlier post. As far as the political spectrum, I went over it again in class. You need to know where certain groups would be located on a 19th century political spectrum. You also need to know what a conservative, liberal, reactionary, radical and moderate might sound like...

Yes, the ppt that you should be studying from is entitled "Historical Globalization and Imperialism". If you want mark updates, just ask. Since you did here, I can post them in the class by ID number.

----------------------
Conservatives believed that in order to get ahead in society you must have skill and ability, if you didn't have it, you'd be left behind.

---------------------
Wow, lot's of questions. Statism involves significant state intervention in personal, social or economic matters. Know examples of individuals for the various -isms. Know the ideas associated with the -isms. Study the chart/ppt.

The Social 20 unit final is all multiple choice.

what is dialectical materialism?

--------------------
The Hegel dialetic model (antithesis-thesis-synthesis) was used by Marx to explain the history of class conflict. Marx felt that the proletariat would rise up in a spontaneous revolution and overthrow the bourgeoisie.

I went over this in class. You don't need to know it for this unit final.

Mr.Gilchrist, would the only differnce between the reformers and the laissez-faire economy be that laissez faire supports private businesses, and the reformers only support the imporvement of employment and living conditions?

Also, i dont really understand the hegelian dialectic and marx's historical dialectic. Can you explain the steps to me?

are there any specific case studies from the textbook that we should review for the unit tomorrow? (social 10)
