You wrote a little pop quiz on the Remembrance Day ceremony today and then I finished off the first PowerPoint presentation on "Politics and Government in Canada". I will send this presentation out tomorrow along with other items (marking guides for projects).
  • WWI/WWII Project is due on Monday, November 13th

We watched a couple of videos today: "Doomed Dynasties" and "Clash of the Generals" (we'll finish this one next week).
  • Imperialism Unit Final is on Monday, November 13th

Imperialism Unit Final has been postponed until Tuesday, November 14th

Are you going to send out the Politics and Governments PowerPoint to us?

I'll try to answer these questions now. I will put up a hyperlink to help you out in that regard. Please check the main post here. I'm not sure what you're trying to do with that hyperlink. I was just testing something after school with Mr. Dailey. I don't think it requires you to put in an ID number at all. I will send out that PowerPoint tomorrow afternoon/evening (please remember that you have the day off tomorrow, I don't. )

Try this site for Juno Beach:

Also, you could go back to my general list of hyperlinks:

Scroll down until you see the Social 10 information.

Now I see what you mean. When you're working from a school computer it takes you directly to the link, but from a computer at home you need the password. Please send me an e-mail message and I will give you the password. I shouldn't share it here because the school pays a subscription for the online information, and if I gave out the password here anyone could use it.

for our reference lists, if we use several pages in a certian site, do we need to write a reference for every page, or can you put the home page of the site? 10-1

Mr. G, will you be sending out the unit outline for Politics and Gov't?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

-------------------
Please have two reference lists. One for images used and the other for information sources. Reference images like this:
Mulroney. (1998). Retrieved November 10, 2006 from the Internet:
insert full website URL here (not italicized of course). The example above assumes that it's a picture of Brian Mulroney that you're using. The format that I used was most similar to the example under "Internet: No Author" in your reference handout that I gave you all a copy of a few weeks back.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

or what?

------------------
You can dowload pictures of course. The groups and individuals that do better on posters tend to include more original visual items in their posters. Try to think of some of the examples that I have on display in my room. A lot of groups have glued 3-D objects on to their posters to give them greater visual appeal.

---------------------
Sorry, I forgot to send that out earlier today. I'll send that out right now. It's not so much of an outline, but rather a list of key terms/concepts that you should understand by the end of the unit.

What if we can't find all the information to reference a source properly?

Why not? What are the circumstances? If it's your textbook or something like that, post here, and maybe somebody will have the bibliographic information you need.

MR. G, I'm doing Air Warfare for the project. Can i include events that British were involved in as Canada involvement too, since Canada was part of the british empire. Plus, can Canada be considered part of the RCAF and RAF??

Kevin Gilchrist said...

-------------------
As many slides that you think you need to cover the topic appropriately. Please don't forget to include your references on a slide (please don't "animate" your references).

Kevin Gilchrist said...

-----------------------
Know that PowerPoint really well. I'm not going to narrow it down more than what's in the textbook and the PowerPoint.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

----------------------
There's a strong connection between industrialization and "new" imperialism.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

-------------------
To some extent. Canadians are involved in the Battle of Britain for example. Yes, Canada was part of the RCAF and some aviators were part of the RAF.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

------------------
So basically what you're saying is that you can't remember what day you found something on the Internet. Just write down that you found it before the due date of the assignment and that will be fine.

It's funny that you "just realized" this. Sure Tuesday sounds fine to me. We'll push it back for both classes. That works for me. Yes, I'm serious and I'm not "messing" with you.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

whats hanging indentation again??

----------------
I'm not sure why you're asking this question, but here goes: hanging indentation is basically indenting, when used in referencing it's used. If you're in Social 10-1, you'll need to indent the second line of all your references. Here's a simple way to indent your sources, by following these instructions found at this site: http://kosmicki.com/boards/hangingindent.html
Don't necessarily follow the format that he's using for your references since it may not be exactly the same as the CBE format.

-------------------
If you're talking about the invention of the airplane, you don't need to do that. I would need to know what you're specifically thinking about including to give you better advice.

MR. G so i'm doing Air Warfare. But one of my subtopics is Purpose. I explain what airware was basically about and how it affected the war. That topic doesn't have alot of canada's contribution can i still include though?

Mr.G how much do you want us to know about Imperialism because the textbook is so much info and the powerpoint so little.Like some of the people in the textbook you never mentioned.Ex.King Leopolod of Belgium.

-------------------
The purpose of air warfare. If you're talking about WWI the purpose changed throughout the course of the war, from reconnaisance to air warfare (dog fights). Yes, it's okay to include it.
