April 2

Here's another really good website for Social 10 students doing research on your WWI and WWII projects, it's called Canada at War. It's a very good website.

This is what people have done in the past with this topic: a little bit of background information/context (what was the role of women in Canadian society prior to WWII), the role that women played during the war (this will be probably the largest section in your project, go into great detail here; if you want to profile some prominent women here, you could), post-WWII women's liberation movement. I also have some examples of this topic up on my bulletin board. It might be a good idea to see how other people have handled this topic. Does this help?

Hey Mr. Gilchrist. For our research project, if we wanted to reference wikipedia, how would we do it? Because there is no reference to who the author is.

There's an example of how to do that in the student handbook PDF file that I told you to print off earlier this semester. You would use the example under Internet-no author.

Here's the URL for the handbook:
http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b857/SchoolSite/docs/Agenda%20book%20on%20website%20updated%20sept%2028%202006.pdf

The part that you need starts on page 22 of the PDF.

No, sorry I don't think that there is a way. You can bookmark the Slideshare site or the page on the blog with all of the hyperlinks, but I don't think that you can download them. Sorry.

mr gilchrist can you tell me what the main points of the WWI/WWII quiz are about? and can you also tell me what we have to do mainly for the battle of vimy ridge?

You need to know Chapters 7-9 and Chapter 12-14 cold. I'm not going to give any more hints than that, other than you need to know those key terms.
For the Battle of Vimy Ridge I would cover the following topics: background to the event, planning for Vimy Ridge, the battle itself, significance of the event, and the aftermath of the event.

When referencing a picture, what do
you do if you don’t know the date
that the picture was copyrighted in?

I guess this would be a problem if you're using photos of battle sites after the war, or what have you. If it's an original photograph from a particular battle, use the year that the battle took place. Otherwise, check your sources. If it's a book, and it is a photo in the book, the author of the book would have had to reference the photo that they used.

For the Canada at war link, when I click on it, it tells me that the address is invalid, what is the web address so that I can type it in myself?

That's the correct address, maybe they are just experiencing a lot of traffic today. It's worked on other days when I've tried it. Maybe, try another day, when it's not the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
