March 2

We did a quick review of what we have studied so far in our Dictatorship unit. I then gave you some notes on the unique characteristics of fascism and communism and the similarities between the two systems. Please remember that you have your Democracy Final on Tuesday, March 6th. Click on this hyperlink to the study guide (you'll have to scroll down to see it). Please remember to bring a political cartoon for Monday's class, please check yesterday's post for lots of hyperlinks to political cartoon sites.

You wrote your French-English Relations Quiz today in class. You will get the results of this quiz early next week. Please remember to study for your Regionalism Unit Final (it's on Monday) and to work on your French-English Relations Timeline assignment (due on Tuesday) this weekend.

Mr. Gilchrist:

I was just wondering if we could do the timeline in a powerpoint format similar to the powerpoint you did on Jepordy for review.

SS 10-2

I think you could do that, because he mentioned we could use powerpoint.

Could someone tell me all the dates that we need to do for the timeline. Help would be appreciated.

Absolutely, you can do it in PowerPoint. I'm not sure that Jeopardy is the best format though. If you do decide to complete it in PowerPoint, please bring a copy of it to class on a USB drive or burn it to a CD. Please don't save it to a floppy disk.

Did you forget the assignment sheet at school?

Here is the assignment:
Create a timeline of French-English relations which includes the following events:
Confederation- 1867
Riel Rebellion- 1885
Manitoba Schools Question- 1890
Conscription in WWI and WWII
Quiet Revolution, 1960-1966
FLQ Crisis-1970
Election of the Parti Quebecois-1976
Referendum of 1980
Failure of Meech Lake Accord-1987
Charlottetown Accord- 1992 (and national referendum)
Formation of the Bloc Quebecois-1993
Quebec Referendum of 1995

For each event, provide a brief description of what happened and how it affected French-English relations.

Hi Mr. Gilchrist. I was wondering if we have to paraphrase the information (for the timeline) from the Canada Today textbook and the presentation you sent on this topic (French-English relations).
I will paraphrase the information from the internet, but do I have to do it from the textbook and the ppt. presentation too?

You don't have to paraphrase the textbook and the presentation. Just be careful when paraphrasing, make sure it's not just changing a couple of words here and there.

Hey Mr. Gilchrist, for our timelines, is it ok if we email it to you? and also for the test tommorow, do we have to study the statistical facts and figures from the regionalism booklet?

---------------------
Please try to avoid sending it to me by e-mail. I have very limited space on my CBE account as it is, and I get lots of e-mail messages every day. Please bring the assignment in on a USB drive, or burn a copy to a CD. I'm assuming that it is PowerPoint or something like that. Please don't save it to a floppy disk, they are notoriously slow with PowerPoint. If you don't have a USB drive, or a CD burner on your computer (quite possible) then, and only then, you can send it to me by e-mail. If you do end up sending it by e-mail, please know that I was always respond to your message telling you that I got your PowerPoint.

Hi Mr. Gilchrist, I didn't finish taking notes from the Canada Today textbook for our timeline. What are some other resources I could use to find the information?

It depends on what you have access to at home. It could be print resources, or Internet based resources. You can find a lot of the information that you would need online.

No. I think that I answered this question before, it seems familiar.

Mr.Gilchrist, I was wondering if you could be kind enough as to reveal to us a bit of information on what the test will be like. By this I mean could you tell us how we are going to answer the questions (multiple choice, short answers, etc). Thank you, even if you cannot tell us.

All of your unit finals in Social 10 are multiple choice format. There are no short answer questions. This format is similar to your Social 10 Final Exam which is 100 multiple choice questions.

Oh I see now, thank you very much for that.
