April 23

We brainstormed some of the causes of WWII in small groups at the beginning of class today, and then we collected our ideas into a concept map. I also gave you a package of maps and readings that cover many key events in WWII. Please make sure that you read through this material! I'm also sending you a timeline of sorts that charts the road to WWII, so please check your e-mail tonight. Your Interwar Years Timeline Assignment is due tomorrow. Also, you have your Interwar Years Quiz tomorrow (short answer format) and your Interwar Years Unit Exam on Monday, click here for the study guide for these exams.

I went through some notes on the board today on the League of Nations, so if you missed class today, you need to get these notes from a classmate. I taught you another mnemonic to remember that the League of Nations was a failure:

French and British self-interest
Absent powers
Ineffective sanctions
Lack of armed forces
Unfair treaties
Reaching decisions too slowly

I then gave you a worksheet on the League of Nations that you were to complete using pages 26-29 in A History of the 20th Century. We went over the answers to this worksheet in class. I also gave you a handout on how the League of Nations was organized that you must read.

We finished watching "Scream Bloody Murder" today, which provided us with a nice lead into a PowerPoint presentation that I started on "Contemporary Examples of Genocide". I have sent this presentation to you already, please print it off and read it, and bring it class tomorrow for homework check marks.
