April 7

I talked a little bit about the end of WWII in Europe, and how after the failure of Operation Barbarossa, the success of the Allied invasion of Italy and the D-Day invasion that the end of the war was near for the Nazis in WWII. We watched an excerpt from the film "Saving Private Ryan" as well. Tomorrow, and for the next few days we will be looking at the Holocaust and other genocides in the 20th century.

We looked at Keynesian economics, fiscal and monetary policy and its intended effect on the business cycle. Please review this tonight! Also, we started looking at one of case studies for the mixed economy, Sweden. I have assigned for homework tonight the following questions from Chapter 13 Getting it Straight: Q1, Q3-9. These questions are due tomorrow.

We started Topic B officially today, by looking at the Paris Peace Conference and the Treaty of Versailles. We looked at the key players (David Lloyd George, Georges Clemenceau, Woodrow Wilson and Vittorio Orlando), key terms (remember the mnemonic GARGLe.

Guilt

Arms

Reparations

German territory

League of Nations

We also looked at other sections of the Treaty of Versailles as well. I have sent you today's PowerPoint presentation "Allied Victory and the Treaty of Versailles" already, so please print it off 4-6 slides per page. In that same e-mail message I have sent you a document called "Wilson's Fourteen Points" which you also need to print off and read. Make sure that you pay particular attention to Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points and what actually makes into the Treaty of Versailles. Tomorrow, you have your Topic A Unit Exam, please make sure that keep studying to maintain or improve upon your results from yesterday's Topic A Quiz.
