April 30

I did a presentation on "The Origins of the Cold War" at the beginning of class today. I will send you a copy of this PowerPoint presentation this afternoon. I will also be giving you some notes on the "big picture" of the Cold War tomorrow. At the end of class I gave you a reading on "The Seeds of the Cold War" (you MUST read this!), and some questions around the post-WWII map of Europe. The questions and the map are due tomorrow. Please make sure that you have read and taken notes on Chapters 9 and 10 in Global Forces in the 20th Century (use the information in the "Seeds of the Cold War" to focus your note-taking). I will post some maps of Europe here this evening.

This unit exam is on Wednesday, May 6th. It is a multiple choice format exam. Please make sure that you study the following material:

  • Read Chapters 7 and 8 in Global Forces of the 20th Century
  • Study the chronology of events leading up to WWII
  • Causes of WWII concept map/notes
  • Study "Blitzkrieg to the Bomb" notes
  • Study key events/maps of WWII package (Blitzkrieg, Operation Barbarossa, War in the Pacific, Hitler Tastes Defeat, End of WWII in Europe and Asia)
  • "The Holocaust" PowerPoint presentation
  • WWII Conferences and Agreements (notes)
  • Effects, results, consequences of WWII

We continued watching "Gandhi" today in class. For homework tonight, please complete the Chapter 7 Key Terms and Questions. I will be doing a homework check on this tomorrow.

We watched the opening sequence from "Saving Private Ryan". We'll continue our examination of WWII tomorrow and next week. You worked on putting key events of WWII in chronological order on a worksheet for the remainder of class time. I'll give you the key to this worksheet next week. Please remember that your Causes of WWII Assignment is due tomorrow.
