April 27

We spent the first half of class today brainstorming in small groups the causes of WWII. If you missed class today, you will need to get the notes from a classmate. I also gave you an assignment on the Causes of World War II, this assignment will be due on Friday, May 1st.

I gave you a couple of reading packages today. The first reading package covers various case studies of contemporary genocide: the Armenian genocide, the Ukrainian famine (the Holomodor), genocide in the former Yugoslavia (Bosnia-Herzegovina), and the Rwandan genocide. The second reading package was an article written by Samantha Power entitled "Never Again: The World's Most Unfulfilled Promise", which we followed up with a class discussion. Tomorrow, we'll begin looking at decolonization and the drive towards Indian nationalism with some backgrounder activities on the history of India, which will lead us into our film study on Gandhi very nicely.

Most of today's class was spent writing your Interwar Years Unit Exam. You will get the results of this unit exam back tomorrow. We will moving on in our study of WWII tomorrow by looking at the Holocaust in greater detail. You will be getting a WWII Unit Exam very soon, so I'll keep you posted on that. Please keep up with the readings that have been assigned!
