October 17

We started watching "The Killing Ground" today in class, and we will finish watching this video about the Canadian experience in World War I. Here are the key terms for Chapter 8:

  • enemy aliens
  • Imperial Munitions Board
  • Wartime Elections Act
  • Victory Bonds
  • Military Service Act

At this point, you should have finished reading Chapter 7 and completed the key terms and trench warfare notes. I would like you to read Chapter 8 tonight, as I will be giving you the Chapter 9 key terms list tomorrow in class.

  • Position Paper Outline is due Thursday, October 19th

I delivered a presentation/lecture on "The Age of Bismarck". This presentation will be sent to you today before I leave the school. This lecture covered material that corresponds to Chapter 9 in your textbook. I gave you a couple of worksheets to complete related to the Age of Bismarck. The Chapter 9 key terms list, and Bismarck wordsearch and crossword puzzle. Please see below for due dates for these and other assignments and projects.

  • Napoleon In-Class Position Paper is on Thursday, October 19th
  • Chapter 9 Key Terms and Bismarck puzzles are due Friday, October 20th
  • Nationalism Unit Final (75 multiple choice questions) is on Monday, October 23rd (please see the study guide here)

In that outline sheet your thesis statement should be written in the space right after the introduction space.

I'll be taking them in at the same time as the Chapter 9 key terms, so I'll keep you posted.

Not quite, I asked you to write out an introductory sentence for each paragraph. How are you going to prove it is more fun to watch a movie at home rather than go to a theatre? (Or vice versa). I would have to see your arguments to see if you're doing this right. Make sure you come to tutorial tomorrow or Thursday.

Your supporting evidence can be point form.

how did napoleon create german and italian nationalism, was it because he created the confederation of the rhine, then they joined together with prussia, to oppose him?
and because he threatened a italian invasion, so they worked together to oppose him?

how long was napoleons rule 1804 to 1814?

I'd rather go in tomorrow, fix up any mistakes i have, and then come back in thursday, if that is possible
if not, i can just go thursday

You're on the right track.

Technically it starts with the coup d'etat of the Directory, and lasts until 1815.

No. Do you mean liberalism?

Wow, busy. That sounds fine.

Liberalism and egalitarianism don't mean the same thing. I sent you a handout with several definitions on it, including these two terms, so you might want to find it for the "dictionary definitions", but basically liberalism includes ideas associated with increased liberties, but also a liberal democratic state. Egalitarianism basically encompasses equality of all people, especially in the eyes of the law.

Sure. If I'm not there it's because I went to Room 108 to heat up my lunch and I'll be right back.

-----------------
When Napoleon returns from exile from Elba his main concern is solidifying his control of France and raising an army for the inevitable confrontation with the other major powers of the day. Italy doesn't really figure into his plans at that time. Remember that the Austrians control many of the Italian states up until Italian unification. To see how some of this happened you need to look at the Congress of Vienna, please visit this hyperlink: http://www.cusd.chico.k12.ca.us/~bsilva/projects/congress/vienessy.html
