Tomorrow morning might not be a great time. I have two Social 20 classes writing their first position paper tomorrow, so I suspect that I'll be too busy to talk about it then. Ask me in class tomorrow or on Friday.

I want you to write your thesis in full sentences, and your introductory sentences for each of your arguments. the rest please put in point form.

---------------------
Yes. You can't write your entire paper or significant parts of it ahead of time. You're better off doing most of it in point form.

That's it for my break in my university class.

Hey I was just wondering if the essay outline that's due tomorrow is the one you sent us about going to the theater or renting a movie, or was it something we got in class?

For the current events, if I heard about some news on tv and if i can't find the article do i just list the 5 w's and give more background information?

I'm assuming you're a Social 20 student...write it out in the outline, and then condense it down to fit on the actual essay question sheet.

This position paper outline is due for Social 10 students tomorrow, and yes, it is the one that I sent to you by e-mail.

-------------------------
Check the web. A lot of news programs have Internet sites as well, and that might help you out. You're going to have to fill people in with background information, people will probably have questions too, so be prepared to handle some from your class mates and from me as well.

Well, I'm off to play volleyball now. So I'll be away from the computer for several hours.

Do 20 have to hand in their position paper outline?

Anonymous said...

for the position paper outline under arguments and examples, can we just write the first sentence of our argument and write down our three examples? Or do we have to include more?

would u say napoleon was a conservative or a liberal?

Anonymous said...

In class you said to give the best arguments first and last. However, if there is a logical order for the arguments, do you still put the strongest ones first and last? Or do you put it in the logical order? For example, you would rent a movie before watching the rented movie, so it would just make sense to write arguments corresponding to those things in that order; but the strongest arguments may not end up being first and last.

The day i check this blog... you showed a 'student made movie' what are the chances? Did you show ours?

You know who I am/ we are.

Anonymous said...

By "thesis statement" do you just mean a simple sentence like "I believe going to the theatre is much better than renting a move and watching it at home."?

Anonymous said...

for the napoleon bonaparte essay would i be able to have a main argument as "he economically made france better" and use the 'bank of france' as evidence instead of an argument.

thanks

No you don't.

That sounds good.

Wow, excellent question. You know your arguments and paper best. If you feel that there is a certain "flow" to your arguments then by all means do it your way.

Yes. But only if there was Star Wars music in it.

---------------------
Yes. But now try to write it without the words "I believe" . Usually I say to use the phrase "After considering both sides of this issue it is apparent that..."

Check again, because I totally remember doing that.

P.S. CSKA Moscow beating Arsenal. What are you kidding me? And you think they're going to win the Champions League?

isn't the thesis statement only introducing the arguements that will be discussed in the essay? Or is it the whole introduction paragraph?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

------------------
Yes, but you might want to "jazz it up a bit". Try something like, "After years of economic turmoil dating back to the Bourbon dynasty, Napoleon was able to revitalize the French economy by creating the Bank of France." and go from there.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

would u say napoleon was a conservative or a liberal?
-------------------------
That's a tough question to answer really. There are certain aspects of the Napoleonic Code that really shows that Napoleon is very conservative, particularly when you look at the way that women are treated in the Code. There are also very "liberal" parts of the Code, that clearly reflect the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. If I were to pin him down though, I would say that leans a little bit more to the conservative side of the spectrum.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

----------------
The thesis statement is a declaration of your position on the issue.
