For the FTA/Peacekeeping Booklet, are the only questions we (social 10-1) are supposed to answer the questions on the page that says "Activity 3"?

I don't have the booklet at home with me, but you're probably right. If there's no questions for peacekeeping then it must only be questions about the FTA.

Maybe a little bit more detail, but you've got the idea.

I'm guessing that you're doing the "Canada's Symbols" worksheet, so try this website:

For the Canada and un peacekeeping operations map, we don't have to include the dates of the operations, right?

No, you don't. The information in your textbook is too out of date.

For the question about the "Maple Leaf Forever" song; the website doesn't have these lyrics; the lyrics in that section are from a different maple leaf song by the same composer.

Do you want us to find the real lyrics to the "Maple Leaf Forever" song or just simply ignore the question?

Kevin Gilchrist said...

Just ignore it. They used to have the lyrics on this page.

You don't need to include a key.

Check your textbook, Canada: A Nation Unfolding. Look for conscription crisis in the index, or look for it under Louis St. Laurent, or Mackenzie King.

They're up on the walls in my classroom. I don't have any electronic examples at home with me.

Don't bring it in on a floppy!!! Either send it to me by e-mail, or burn it to a CD or bring it in on a "jump drive" (USB drive).

I'm assuming you mean Canada Today. Sorry, I don't have a copy of that book at home with me. I know that there were people that did get the publishing information from the book. Maybe if you ask nicely, someone will post it here.

You can write paragraph form or point form for this project.

----------------------
Basically, this is part of the Peninsular Wars (battles fought on the Iberian peninsula, in Spain and Portugal.) Napoleon thought the European continent was vulnerable to a British invasion through Portugal so Napoleon attacked and captured Lisbon. That's enough on that topic.

What specifically, can't you remember about the film? You refer to what "he" was thinking, are we talking about Napoleon? Wellington?

I think that you have to remember that Wellington studied Napoleon's battle techniques extensively. He had respect for Napoleon as a general and a tactician, but he didn't like the megolomania aspects of Napoleon's personality (desire to conquer Europe). Here's a link that will help you better understand the infantry "square" formation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infantry_square

Kevin Gilchrist said...

---------------------
Definitely the rain played a factor in the battle. You might also remember in the film a point where Napoleon believes that he has won the battle and Wellington believes that he is losing the battle, and then the Prussians show up and swing the tide in favor of the British.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

-------------------
I'm assuming you're a Social 10-1 student. I want to say it's on page 301 or 310. It should be in Chapter 17 if that helps.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

"Monster". "Thief of Europe".

does this mean what is the anthem called?

--------------------------
You must cite every article individually. Please print off pages 22-25 of this PDF from the Churchill wesbite (it can be found here: http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b857/SchoolSite/docs/Agenda%20book%20on%20website%20updated%20sept%2028%202006.pdf), and follow an Internet article example, probably with no author, since it's Wikipedia.

Kevin Gilchrist said...

mr. gilchrist is our timeline suposed to be order of the dates or does it matter??

------------------
It should be in the chronological order. Split up the WWI and WWII conscription crises, if that's what the trouble is. Okay Roxy?

Anonymous said...

if we are doing the timeline on paper does the years have to to be in proportion and to scale? So there is a smaller space between events 3 years apart than 10 years apart?

Were you watching? Use of marching infantry, artillery (canon), cavalry charges, Napoleon attempts to split Wellington's forces, hiding troops down the reverse slope to prevent Napoleon from having many artillery targets etc.

Label and color the map where Canadians have served as peacekeepers. You don't have to color the oceans, or countries where there hasn't been peacekeeping operations.
