I gave you a booklet today entitled "The Making of Quarrels". Please make sure that you have completed the reading booklets that I have distributed so far. Don't forget that you have your Imperialism Unit Final on Monday. Have a great long weekend!


We watched another video in class today. This one was called "Our National Parliament". While watching this video you were to take notes. If you missed today's class or even yesterday's class you need to get these notes from a classmate. Don't forget that your Political Cartoon assignment is due on Monday. You watched a couple of videos today in class. One was called "Doomed Dynasties" and the other was "Clash of the Generals". I also gave you a small booklet with information on each of the major European powers on the eve of World War I.

You wrote your Sovereignty Unit Final today in class. Please don't forget that your WWI/WWII Research Project is due tomorrow. Also don't forget to find a political cartoon to analyze. I delivered a presentation today on "The Causes of World War I". The version that I have sent to you by e-mail may look slightly different than the one I delivered in class. I assigned the following sections in Chapter 12 that I want you to read and take notes on:

  • page 224-225 foreign conflict
  • Schlieffen Plan
  • assassination (page 227-229)

I also gave you a reading booklet called "The Causes of World War I". Please read this booklet and highlight and make notes to yourself in the margins. I think that this booklet is an invaluable resource (don't lose it!).

We finished off the Cabinet Selection Simulation today in class, so hopefully now you have a greater appreciation of how difficult it is to put together a cabinet, and how much you might be second-guessed in your selections. I also gave you a handout and assignment called "Interpreting Political Cartoons", if you missed today's class you need to get this handout from me. This assignment is due next Monday. You should be studying for your Sovereignty Unit Final tonight. You can find the study guide for this unit final here.

I will be giving you the results of your tests tomorrow. I will be throwing out some of the questions from the unit final because there were some repeat questions. We will be looking at "Imperialism in Action" tomorrow.


I gave you a presentation today on "Politics and Government" (part 2). I will be sending this presentation out shortly, but you may not receive it tonight because I want to add in the slides that were deleted today when the network went haywire. Please start working on learning those key terms that I sent you yesterday, your first pop quiz will be on those key terms. Please read in Chapter 1 of your text the following pages: p.10-15, p.17, p.19-20, p.24, p. 26-27. Make sure that you copy down the key terms on page 12 into your notes.

I went over some basic economic theory today in class. This lecture and notes that took from the board will form the basis of the ideological reaction to industrialization that we will be getting into tomorrow. Today you had opportunity to start research on your WWI and WWII research project. This was your first and last class period to conduct research in the library. I hope that you find time between now and the assignment's due date to visit the library again to do some more research on your selected topic.


This assignment is to be completed by Wednesday, April 26th. If you are completing this project in digital format (PowerPoint or film), please burn your project to a CD-R or DVD-R (if it's a movie, the DVD format may be best depending on the size of the file).


I went over the answers to the Industrial Revolution booklet's "word ladder" at the beginning of class, and then gave you another booklet. We went over the positives and negatives of the Industrial Revolution. I also assigned the following questions from Chapter 6 which are due on Wednesday of this week: Q7-19 are to be completed.

It will be just a short post tonight...

I will be sending out today's presentation later tonight. The topic for this topic was the Interwar Years and the Road to WWII. Please make sure that you read Chapter 12 in the textbook, and continue compiling your key terms from that chapter. I checked the availability of the Blenheim computer lab for our in-class position paper and it looks like we'll have to write in the classroom, the lab is booked solid for the next two weeks. I'll be giving you the essay topic handouts early next week.


I delivered a presentation on "The Age of Bismarck" in class today, and I gave you some puzzles on Bismarck. Please study for Wednesday's unit final.
