September 28

I did a homework check of your Chapter 4 Key Terms and Questions. We also did a Wesbite Evaluation Assignment that is a requirement of all Social 10 students coming into Churchill. Have a great weekend!

Today I collected four homework assignments that were due today and gave you homework check credit on them. I also gave you a homework assignment: you must send me by e-mail 10 Jeopardy! style questions to my CBE mail account (krgilchrist@cbe.ab.ca) before Sunday at 8 p.m. This will be a homework check as well. Please check the list of upcoming important dates below:

  • 10 Jeopardy! Questions (with answers) due before Sunday at 8 p.m.
  • Napoleonic Europe Map is due Monday, October 1st
  • Chapter 5 Questions (Q1-5, 12) are due Tuesday, October 2nd
  • Nationalism Test (which covers Chapters 2-5) is on Thursday, October 4th (here is the study guide)

This is a modern map of Europe, however, it will be useful if you haven't labeled the latitude and longitude on your Napoleonic Europe Maps yet.

Here's another map that might be helpful, it's from 1815, but it'll still be useful.

I've posted a modern map of Europe which should help. The latitudes and longitudes haven't changed any since Napoleon's time.

is there any homework for social 10?

I didn't assign any. It wouldn't be a bad idea to review Chapters 3-4, you'll be having a quiz on those chapters/topics very soon.

(social 20) Mr. Gilchrist, did you want all captials for countries and bodies or waters or just the capital of the starting letter?

for the map, are you sure we're suppose to color the allies of France blue? (same as water)

All capitals for bodies of water and countries is the preference, but I'm not as picky about that as I am actually labeling everything that you're supposed to.

If that's what it says to do then do it. The only thing that I said to not do as it says on the instruction sheet is to write the bodies of water in blue pen, my preference is black.

-------------------
In our department you have to request to teach certain classes. I haven't requested a Social 30 class. I'll be requesting a Social 30 class next year.

I'll try to post some other maps to help you. If you can find Rome on any of the maps that I've posted you can find where the Papal States were. On your map assignment, the dot on Italy represents Rome, and the area that surrounds it is the Papal States (the Papal States were controlled by the Pope).

Tuscany is northwest of the Papal States (it's right next to the Papal States), you can't miss it on the 1815 map that I just posted.

Montenegro is right next to the Illyrian Provinces. It's in southeastern Europe. It'll be a fairly small area near modern day Greece.

You can find Montenegro on the modern map of Europe that I posted. It's right on the Adriatic Sea, right across from Italy.

It's in the textbook map in Chapter 4. It's also on the top map in my Thursday post. I think they want the route into and out of Russia as well, not France.
